CAO BANG (VNS) — Police in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang have arrested a Chinese man attempting to smuggle more than 1.5 tonnes of illegal firecrackers into Viet Nam.
The 29-year-old man was arrested in Ha Lang District’s Thi Hoa Commune with the firecrackers, due for consumption on Wednesday night, still in his possession.

However, Government spokesman Winthai Suwaree named Meerailee on the same day as the suspect who was arrested on September 1 by army personnel at Thailand’s eastern border in Sa Kaeo province. The explosion at Bangkok’s Erwan shrine on August 17 killed 20 people and injured more than 120. Another blast occurred at a Bangkok pier the following day, causing no injuries. Local media earlier published a photo of the arrested man’s passport, which appeared to identify him as a Chinese national from Xinjiang region, although police have stated that they are unsure whether the passport is genuine or not.... Police have arrested a Chinese man for allegedly stealing money from a passenger while aboard a flight in Vietnam, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported, the second such offense within a week. Dai Da Peng, 26, took money from the bag of a Vietnamese man sitting in front of him on Vietnam Airlines' flight from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City Thursday when the victim was eating breakfast, the paper said, citing the crew’s report. TAY NINH (VNS)— The People's Court in the southern province of Tay Ninh yesterday sentenced a Chinese man to death for illegally transporting large amounts of drugs into Viet Nam.According to the indictment Zhang Zhi Hua, 51, was arrested by anti-drug smuggling forces in Ben Cau district after they detected drugs hidden in his luggage. During the raid on February 1, 2011, police found 120,000 ecstasy pills, weighing nearly 11kg. Police in the central city of Phan Thiet arrested a Chinese man on Monday after he refused to stop for speeding and tried to drive his car through a group of traffic police. Police spotted the 7-seater car speeding between the city center and the nearby resort town of Mui Ne.
