The Hue Relics Preservation Centre has committed VND30 million to the project, which will focus on reinforcing the temple’s wooden frames and preserving and restoring its altars.
The US-based Alliance for Children has also announced it will give Thua Thien-Hue Province non-refundable aid funding for VND1.3 billion initiative supporting local children with disabilities.
The 2014-16 project aims to help disabled children learn the necessary skills for self-sufficiency and independence, reducing the pressure on their families and society.
Since its UNESCO recognition as a World Cultural Heritage site in1993, the former imperial city of Hue has received nearly US$8 millionfrom foreign governments and organisations to preserve its relics. The Complex of Hue Monuments is recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1993. The project is valued at EUR20,250, including EUR13,650 granted by the French region, and the remainder is sourced from the Hue Relics Preservation Centre. Local young volunteers will act as the nucleus of the project as they will be equipped with knowledge on the heritage law and Hue relics through experts’ lectures and fact-finding tours and then pass on the information to people around them. Vietnamese visitors will enjoy free admission to Hue heritage sites during the first three days of the Lunar New Year, from February 19-21, the Hue Monument Conservation Centre (HMCC) has announced.
