PHU YEN (VNS) – The Phu Yen TV channel launched its official broadcast on UHF channel 37 on Monday to mark the 68th National Day.
It is the last province in the country to have its own local TV station.
In addition to broadcasting national VTV’s programmes, Phu Yen TV will also showcase its own programming featuring daily news, features and entertainment with a total broadcasting time of 8.5 hours per day.
The Phu Yen TV channel will use its VND32.6 billion (US$1.5 million) budget to provide information and updates to its people. — VNS

Phu Yen’s provincial authorities’ claim that mass lobster deaths were caused by a sudden weather change has been rejected by local farmers who are blaming a company for releasing polluted water into the environment. Phu Yen was the hardest hit province in the south-central region, with 72 people confirmed dead, 11 missing and 31 injured. The storm damaged 15,000 houses and caused water levels in the local river to rise quickly, flooding a large area in the province. Rescue forces, including soldiers, police and young volunteers, are searching for the missing and helping people clean up the environment. A rare accident involving a cargo train occurred this morning, October 13, causing damage to seven kilometres of railroad near a station in the central province of Phu Yen. The incident occurred at 4am today on a section of railway running through Tan Vinh 1 Hamlet, Xuan Son Nam Commune when the second car's oil tank exploded. It was reported that torrential rain and the subsequent floods killed 21 lives, injured nine others, swept away nearly 500 houses and destroyed 7,500ha of rice and 10,000ha of sugarcane in Phu Yen. Authorities in Tuy Hoa City in the coastal province of Phu Yen have banned swimming at a local beach due to the appearance of what they describe as a ‘big fish’, probably a shark, in recent days.
