Nhan Dan Online – French professor Odon Vallet and Vietnamese professor Tran Thanh Van on August 26 presented Odon Vallet scholarships to outstanding Vietnamese students.
Two Nobel Prize winners from the US, Sheldon Glashow and David Gross also attended the presentation ceremony at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi.
Through the Meet Vietnam organisation, a total of 2,188 scholarships worth over VND18 billion (US$846,000) have been awarded to Vietnamese students this year. 1,645 pupils received scholarships worth VND7.5 million, while 543 outstanding students and young researchers received scholarships worth VND12 million each.
This is the 13th consecutive year that Odon Vallet Scholarships have been presented to encourage Vietnamese students who excel in their studies.
Also at the ceremony, Vietnam Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan presented the insignia “For the Cause of Education” to Professor Vallet.
As a doctor of law at the Sorbonne University in France, Odon Vallet devoted part of his family inheritance, worth EUR100 million, to grant scholarships to disavantaged students in France and Vietnam.
