(VOVworld) – The U Minh Thuong National Park in the southern province of Kien Giang on Monday received a UNESCO certificate as an ASEAN Heritage Park. The park is surrounded by a 60-kilometer closed levee. Among alum eco-systems in the Mekong River Delta, only the core zone of the U Minh Thuong National Park retains characteristics of a primeval forest including 3,000 hectares of mixed mangrove forests and mangrove forests on peatlands.
The forest used to be a military base during Vietnam’s wars. So the U Minh Thuong National Park features not only a typicalpeatlands ecosystem but also a historical relic.

Vietnam’s National Tourism Year 2015 will take the theme of “Connecting world heritage” with a series of activities taking place in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa, the designated main venue, local officials announced in Hanoi on December 9. U Minh Ha National Park established in Ca Mau (08-02-2006) Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has signed a decision to establish the 8,286-ha U Minh Ha National Park in the southernmost Ca Mau Province, formed from the Vo Doi special forests and part of the U Minh cajeput forest.
