The Council of Vu family with 5 branches in Dan Giap hamlet, Thanh Giang commune, Thanh Mien (Hai Duong) on 11 August organized an incense offering ceremony in commemoration of the 200th death anniversary of celebrity Vu Van Dung (6 July 1813 – 6 July 2013 in lunar calendar).
Celebrity Vu Van Dung was born into an official family during the Le dynasty in the year of the Mouse (Giap Ty – 1744) in Dan Giap commune, My Dong district, Thanh Mien (Dan Giap hamlet, Thanh Giang commune, Thanh Mien nowadays), according to documents of the Council of Vu family in Dan Giap hamlet.
Witnessing the injustices of the feudal dynasty, he followed the call of the good cause, contributed to helping Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue defeat two invasions of Siam and Qing dynasty.
Concurrently, with clever diplomacy, he was twice sent to foreign countries as the King Quang Trung’s envoy at the most important times.
Thanks to great merits, he was appointed as Grand General Chieu Vien, Grand Admiral, Minister of the Masses, and was ranked among “Tay Son’s seven brave and strong generals” by his contemporaries.
At the end of his life, he and his wife and children lived in Thanh Hoa.
He passed away on 6 July 1813 (lunar calendar) at the age of 70.
