PANO – The Southwestern Steering Board should work closely with local authorities and armed forces to obtain more achievements in defence and security work, contributing to upholding political security and social order in the Mekong River Delta, said Deputy Defence Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty while working with the board on August 29th.
He was briefed on the board’s organization, personnel, missions and the southwestern region’s socio-economic and political situations, development orientations and upcoming economic cooperation efforts.
Despite economic recession, the region achieved economic growth of around 9 per cent in the first 8 months this year. However, the household poverty rate remained high, at around 9.2 per cent.
Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty highly appreciated the board’s efforts in overcoming difficulties and hoped they would bring into play their achievements.
