This is President Sang’s first State-level visit to China and the first State-visit by a senior Vietnamese leader after China elected a new leadership.
The visit aims to reinforce political trust, friendship and cooperation between the two Parties and States. It will help chart the future course for the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership, for the development of the two countries, and for peace, stability and development in the region.
President Sang is scheduled to hold talks with President Xi and meet with other senior Chinese leaders.
He will also visit Guangdong province.
The two sides are expected to sign a number of cooperation agreements.
On February 22, President Truong Tan Sang visited Ly Son island district as part of his trip to central Quang Ngai province. President Sang also talked with An Hai communal authorities about the local socio-economic situation. He stressed Ly Son’s strategic important position and asked local authorities to double efforts to boost local development. At the Mong Duong II BOT Power Project site, managing director of the AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Company Limited David Stone, reported to President Sang on the project's progress as well as several key milestones which have recently been completed including the synchronisation of Unit 1 to the 500kV national grid and the achievement of full load on Unit 1 of 560 net MW. Local residents from the province's Phu Dong Ward asked the President to support a fishery logistics centre and address problems caused by landslides triggered by high tides. They also asked for the canals in the area to be dredged to facilitate the transportation of fishing vessels.
