The tournament, the 9th of its kind, involves 200 officials, coaches, and martial artists representing 17 French-speaking nations across Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Vietnam is aiming to win at least one or two gold medals at the tournament.
The event offers the Vietnamese national Taekwondo team a chance to prepare for the 27th SEA Games. The team includes key martial artists like Nguyen Quoc Cuong (58kg), Le Huynh Chau (68kg), Nguyen Van Son (80kg), Nguyen Trong Cuong (>80kg), Doan Thi Huong Giang (49kg), Nguyen Ha Thanh (57kg), Nguyen Thi Hien (67kg), and Ha Thi Nguyen (67kg).
The Vietnamese artist recently completed a two-week training programme in France.
The tournament is part of the 2013 France Year in Vietnam which encompasses a series of cultural, sporting, and tourism activities commemorating International Francophonie Day and the 40th anniversary of French-Vietnamese diplomatic ties.
As well as the Taekwondo championships, a Vovinam (traditional Vietnamese martial arts) Day in France and the football-based “En Avent de Guingamp” are also planned.
