(VOV) – Vietnam’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group will invest US$74 million in a project to build Nongkhang airport in Houaphan province.
A spokesperson for the Lao Ministry of Construction confirmed on June 16 that representatives of the Lao Ministry and the Vietnamese Group have signed an airport building contract in Vientiane.
Under the contract, HAGL Group will build the airport which is designed to accommodate large planes such as ATR72s and FOK-KER70s.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
Located in north Laos, Houaphan was considered the country’s capital of war resistance during wartime. Today, its transportation and communication with capital Vientiane remain in difficulty.

Vietnamese corporation Ha Do conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the new urban area named Nongtha in Chantabuly district of the Lao capital city of Vientiane on November 15. The US$250-million project, designed by Singaporean company Surbana, consists of a modern ecological urban area with schools, trade centres, offices, housing and works to celebrate major events in Vientiane as well as in Laos. The Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) started work on the construction of a nine-story office building in Laos' capital city of Vientiane on November 15. The building will serve as the bank's head office in Laos while providing office space for rent with a total floor space of 18,552 sq.m, according to Nguyen Van Du, Deputy Director General of Vietinbank. HA NOI (Biz Hub) — The Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group imported from Laos more than 1,300 tonnes of sugar worth US$803,320 in June through the Bo Y International Border Gate in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. Vietnam's Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Co said its power unit has secured a license to invest some US$135 million to build two hydropower plants in Laos. The license was granted by Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment. The dynamos will have a combined capacity of 111 megawatts and annual output of 433.35 million kilowatt-hours.
