VietNamNet Bridge ‘ A new product by director Luu Huynh will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada this year. It is also an entry for the People’s Choice award.

The 37th Toronto Film Festival has announced the name of nearly 350 partiicpating movies from many countries, including ‘”Lay Chong Nguoi Ta'” (In the Name of Love). This is a product of director Luu Huynh, who is known for ‘”Ao Lua Ha Dong'” (The White Silk Dress) and ‘”Huyen Thoai Bat Tu'” (The Legend Is Alive). The movie will compete at the Contemporary World Cinema category.

The movie tells the story about the tricky life of a woman named Lua. Lua (Dinh Y Nhung) and her husband (Huy Khanh) living a poor life in a fishing village. Their dream is having a baby. However, their child is robbed by a man (Thai Hoa).

The first teaser of this movie was released online in late May. It immediately stirred up the public because of hot scenes between Dinh Y Nhung (director Luu Huynh’s wife) and Huy Khanh.

The movie is schedule for release at local cinemas in October 2012.

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is a publicly attended film festival held each September in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The festival begins the Thursday night after Labour Day (the first Monday in September in Canada), lasting for eleven days. Founded in 1976, the TIFF is now one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.

The 37th Toronto International Film Festival will be held from September 6 to 16.

Last year Vu Ngoc Dang’s ‘”Hot Boy Noi Loan'” (Lost in Paradise) competed at the Discovery category of the Toronto festival.

Vietnamese films enter Toronto, Montreal film festivals

Two Vietnamese films will screen at the Montreal World Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada this month and next. Tam hon me (Mother's Soul) by director Pham Nhue Giang will be one of the 432 films from 80 countries and territories worldwide to be shown at the Montreal event August 23 until September 3. The film features a single mom's complicated life with her two children. Teenage actress Phung Hoa Hoai Linh was awarded Best Female Actor at the 8th International Asia Africa Film Festival in Dubai last year for her role as a little girl named Thu in the film. Pham Nhue Giang's feature film also won Best Feature Film Award at the Golden Kite Award held early this year in Hanoi. Lay chong nguoi ta (In the Name of Love) by director Luu Huynh will make its world debut at the Toronto festival's Contemporary World Cinemas category, along with 62 other features September 6-16. The event will feature over 300 films from 60 countries and territories worldwide. Lay chong nguoi ta will compete for the People's Choice Award, the only award at the event. The award has been won by "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The King's Speech," both of which went on to win Oscars. In the Name of Love has a chance to grab the People's Choice Award for the film with the highest audience ratings. Last year, the Vietnamese movie Lost in Paradise was screened in the Discovery category that was not qualified for the award, according to a representative from BHD, a film distributor. In the Name of Love describes a love triangle that proceeds with the inexorable logic of a Greek tragedy. A dedicated wife in a small Vietnamese fishing village secretly turns to another man when her husband is unable to give her the child they both crave. But the surrogate father's crazed jealousy has fateful consequences. Most scenes were shot in March in the floating village of La Nga in the southern province of Dong Nai starring actors Thai Hoa, Dinh Y Nhung and Huy Khanh for the first time.
