QUANG BINH — Bo Trach District rangers and police apprehended two trucks with a total 1.4 tonnes of sua (Dalbergia tonkinensis), a very precious type of wood, on Wednesday evening.
Tran Thi Hoa, owner of the first truck, said she was hired to deliver 600 kg of wood from Phuc Trach to Bac Trach Commune, Bo Trach District. Later that night, the police stopped another truck, driven by Vu Van Thieu, carrying 780 kg of wood.
Police confiscated the goods and started investigating the case. — VNS

A group of traffickers was caught red-handed while trying to transport 14 cakes of heroin (approximately 7kg) from Laos to Viet Nam on August 24. Police in the central region's Quang Tri Province and their counterparts across the Laos border on Thursday arrested two Lao men who were trafficking heroin into Vietnam. Don Chan, 31, and Thao Keo, 35, were caught trafficking 14,800 tablets of synthesized drugs into Vietnam, Nguyen Thuan Hoa of the Quang Tri border guard force was quoted as saying by the Vietnam News Agency. Hanoi Times - The Vietnam Wood and Forestry Association on April 25 denied a report by two non-government environmental organizations that says Vietnam is using wood illegally imported from Laos . The March report, conducted by the UK-based Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) in conjunction with Telapak of Indonesia, says at least 500,000 cubic meters of logs move from Laos to Vietnam every year. BAC NINH — Nguyen Van Trung, a 36-year-old man from Hai Phong City, was caught red-handed in Tu Son Commune in northern Bac Ninh Province while transporting two packets of heroin weighting 530.7 grams on Saturday night. LAO CAI (VNS)— Police in the northern city of Lao Cai arrested two men for trafficking the body parts of a sun bear in the city's Cam Duong Commune yesterday.
