(CPV) – In Hanoi, on February 15, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in cooperation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction (MoC), Vietnam Urban Development and Planning Association held an international seminar on urban development in Asia and Africa. The seminar is part of a 4 – day program sponsored by JICA which provides opportunities for African countries to share and learn experiences in urban development in Vietnam. “This seminar is an important activity for the African countries to further learn about Asian models of urban development. All the participants recognized that Asian and African countries were facing common and complex urban problems and prompt actions under strong initiative of the governments were required to cope with these problems”, said Mr. Hisatoshi OKUBO, Chief Representative of JICA Senegal Office. At the seminar Ms. Marie NDAW, Technical Director of Urban Development Agency of Senegal presented problems of urban development that they are facing in West Africa. For Vietnam, Ms. Phan Thi My Linh, Director of Urban Development Agency, MoC shared remarkable achievements in urban planning and management that Vietnam has gained in recent years. Besides, Mr. Bui Manh Tien, Vice Director of Hanoi Architecture and Urban Planning focused on introducing the recently approved master plan for Hanoi as well as challenges for its realization. Since the fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development held in Yokohama in 2008, Japanese government has shown their strong commitment in promotion of South-South cooperation especially between Asia and Africa.
