The NBA’s Houston Rockets have gone on a tear for the ages, reeling off 19 wins in a row. This now without Yao Ming, out with a broken foot. What is in the water in Houston?
The Houston Rockets were said to be left for dead after Yao Ming went down for the season with a broken left foot. At the time Yao Ming got hurt, the Houston Rockets were the hottest team in the NBA, having reeled off double-digit wins. His injury was the deathblow according to experts.
Amazingly, the opposite has happened for the Rockets, who have not missed a beat during Yao’s absence, and have gone on an NBA rampage to the tune of 19 wins in a row, high this year in the NBA, and 5th longest winning streak in NBA history.
It is a case of the Rockets rallying around one another after Yao’s injury. Credit must go to Tracy McGrady, the Rockets shooting guard and now, unquestioned team leader without Yao Ming. McGrady has played for the first time in his NBA career as a real leader, living up to his paycheck.
The Houston Rockets are now #3 in the NBA West, only one game behind the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. Much credit also needs to go to Rick Adelman, the first-year Head Coach of the Rockets, who also, along with McGrady, has something to prove come playoff time.
The road will not be so easy, winning streak or not in the face of the Western Conference without Yao Ming.
