Vietnam’s largest “thuy mac” (ink-and-wash) painting was showcased in Ho Chi Minh City on February 18. The 4.5m long and 1.1m wide painting, entitled “Tram Hoa Dua No” (A hundred flowers bloom), was drawn by 18 artists from District 5’s Fine Arts Club with the aim of praising the country’s sceneries. The ink-and-wash technique of painting originated from China in which both watercolour and tempera are used to create the desired effect.
The fiercest storm of the winter slammed the northeastern United States on Thursday, bringing snowfalls expected to be a foot (30 cms) deep, forcing cancellation of thousands of flights and closing schools. “My grandparents left Vietnam when they were young. They used to tell me about their childhood memories in the country, urging me thinking about ways to keep memories and reproduce them. That idea motivated me to create these paintings,” Nguyen said. Nguyen said in a statement that he did not intend to reproduce exactly the stories told by his grandparents but express what he felt about them. Twenty-six paintings by Australian artist Vincent Fantauzzo are currently on display in Ho Chi Minh City . The 12-day exhibition, which will last until Sept. 5, features 26 portraits, including two copies of portraits of the late Australian actor Heath Ledger and Australian actor Brandon Walters as their original paintings are being exhibited at the New South Wales Museum in Australia . A painting exhibition of 9 artists from Hanoi opened at Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum on March 3. The exhibition displays more than 100 artworks describing the people, culture and landscapes in the North. Artist To Ngoc Thanh, a son of To Ngoc Van who is one of Vietnam's top painters in the first half of the 20th century, presents to city’s viewers 24 pictures of daily activities of ethnic groups in Sapa. Liubov Fedotova, the wife of the Ukrainian Ambassador to Vietnam, is displaying her Vietnamese-inspired lacquer paintings at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City. Using traditional materials such as silver, bronze and nacre, the artist is exceptional at depicting the traditional images of Vietnam and the Ukraine through remarkable pieces such as "Blonde angel" (2006), "Dialogue between the two cultures" (2007) and "St. Michaels's church in Kyriv, Ukraine" (2008). Ms Fedotova was born in Kazakhstan in 1959 and graduated from the Chita Pedagogy University. She accompanied her husband to Vietnam in 2003 and started producing lacquer paintings in 2005. The…...
