Mr Pimple made the remark at a meeting with Huynh Dam, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Central Committee (VFFCC) in Hanoi on August 23.
Mr Dam told his guest about some key tasks of the VFFCC which aim to strengthen great national unity, fulfill national socio-economic development plans and cooperate with relevant organizations to realize the targets of international organizations in Vietnam, including 8 MDGs such as poverty reduction, primary education universalization, gender equality and reduction in infant mortality.
To implement these targets, the VFFCC has launched two movements entitled “Day for the Poor” and “All people unite in building a cultural life in residential areas” which have received an active response from local people. The Committee has also encouraged people to participate in building the Party and administration and supervising activities of State agencies in order to develop a State of the people, by the people and for the people.
The UN official highly praised Vietnam’s achievements in implementing the MDGs and its international commitments. He stressed that Vietnam has set a bright example for other countries in realizing the MDGs. He said the UN Millennium Campaign will continue to cooperate with Vietnam in the implementation of the MDGs.
