Cambodia and Vietnam Saturday celebrated their 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations at a ceremony in Phnom Penh, with both sides determining to enhance cooperation and support each other’s development. In his speech, Heng Samrin, Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly and President of the Cambodian United Development Front (CUDF), said that the friendship between Cambodia and Vietnam progressed impressively through both grassroots and high-ranking cooperation programs. Heng Samrin, who is also President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), expressed profound gratitude to the whole hearted, valuable assistance of the people of Vietnam to Cambodia in keeping peace, maintaining political stability and aiding economic development. Addressing the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Chien Thang thanked the people of Cambodia for their assistance to the Vietnamese people in the struggle for national development. Ambassador Thang said that though Vietnam and Cambodia have undergone ups and downs in their respective histories, the close solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia has been increasingly fostered and developed. On the same day, a seminar on the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia was held in Phnom Penh, drawing representatives from the two countries. As part of program to mark this event, the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts will hold the first Cambodian Cultural Week in Vietnam in four cities and provinces from June 25-30, with an aim to introduce the people, land and traditional customs of Cambodia.
