As of December 18, central provinces from Quang Nam to Khanh Hoa saw a reduction in the rainfall and the water levels in rivers. Localities plan to repair roads and irrigation systems, clean up the environment and stabilize people’s lives. Khanh Hoa province saw the biggest losses. Among 31 victims of the floods, 8 workers of a construction company are from Thanh Hoa and 1 from Thai Binh province. The company donated 2 million for each victim’s family. In Khanh Hoa alone, 300 houses, 10,060 hectares of rice and many irrigation and road systems were damaged. 66,000 cubic meters of land were swept away and 128 tons of seeds were lost. The Khanh Hoa People’s Committee also gave 1.5-3 million VND for each damaged house and 1.9 billion VND to buy seeds for production. Phu Yen province has put aside 200 million VND to buy food, material and equipment for the rescue work; 600 tons of rice seeds for farmers to resume production and asked the government to provide local people with 1,650 tons of rice, 900 tons of rice seeds and 43 billion VND to overcome floods’ consequences. According to the central steering committee for storm damage prevention, the unusual floods in central provinces took 44 lives, destroyed around 5,000 houses and schools, swept away 500,000 cubic meters of land, broke 22 different construction projects in Binh Dinh province, ruined 3,114 hectares of rice and 700 hectares of fish farms in Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa province,…
