US servicemen’s remains repatriated A ceremony was held at Da Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang on April 16 to repatriate remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam. The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Board of Directors of Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), Ms. Rena Bitters, the US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, and representatives of the US Defense Attache Office, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), and the US MIA Office in Hanoi. Two boxes of remains from the 118th Joint Field Activities from February to April, 2015 were handed over to the US side. The remains had been jointly reviewed and concluded by Vietnam and US forensic specialists that they might be associated with the US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam and were recommended to bring to Hawaii, the United States, for further review. New-style cooperatives deemed critical to agricultural development

A forum held in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on April 15 urged for more ambition and innovation in the city’s bid to create new-style cooperatives in the face of current integration and development. Agricultural cooperatives now play a role more important than ever amid the rapid pace of development, said Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region Nguyen Phong Quang. He highlighted the need to adapt existing cooperatives to current conditions. Once built and operated successfully, new-style cooperatives, especially those for the Mekong Delta’s key staples of rice, aquatic products and fruits, will boost profitability and increase incomes for farmers, he added. VFF leader presents New Year gifts to Khmer monks

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan presented gifts to monks at Khmer pagodas in the southern province of Tra Vinh on April 12 on the occasion of the Khmer New Year festival – Chol Chnam Thmey. Visiting the Tra Vinh Patriotic Monks Solidarity Association in Tra Vinh City and Py-Seyva-Ra-Ram Pagoda in Cang Long District, the VFF leader praised the monks for their dedicated religious activities and participation in local social programmes, helping improve living conditions for the Khmer community. On the occasion, he handed over 100 cows worth VND1 billion (around US$46,000) to 100 poor families. The cows were donated by the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. (VOVworld) – On Tuesday, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and a number of agencies signed a program to strengthen supervisory coordination in the tax and customs sector. The agencies, which include the Finance Ministry, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, and the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Vietnam, will work together to improve the business environment, shorten the time needed to complete administrative procedures and increase the responsibility of state administrative agencies. The program will collect enterprises’ opinions on reforming tax and customs procedures and point out procedures that still need to be improved. VFF President visits Friedrich Naumann Foundation

(VOV) - Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee President Nguyen Thien Nhan on February 4 visited the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) – the foundation for liberal politics in Germany. According to FNF Director Hans-Georg Jonek, FNF is a non-profitable and non-governmental organisation operating in more than 70 countries. FNF opened its representative office in Vietnam in 2012 mainly to support Vietnam’s market economy development projects. FNF has cooperated with the Institute of Co-operative Economy Development (ICED) under the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance in capacity building projects. Last year it assisted the ICED to draft and publish a handbook on the Cooperative Law. Korea supports E-learning for National Economic and Technical College

(CPV) - The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Samsung Electronics on November 12 handed over the project of improvement of capacity and education environment to the National Economic and Technical College (NETC) in Hanoi - a Public Private Partnership of KOICA. Accordingly, some of USD145,000 spent for the construction of a KOICA-Samsung E-learning center with installed hardware and software from July to November 2014. The project is a cooperation result proposed and coordinated by volunteer Been Jae Man rendering service at NETC. Teachers and students from NETC now have chance to improve their professional skills. Besides, this College, located in Hanoi's suburb Gia Lam district, has also developed an E-learning project and submitted to its managing agency, Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) for the approval. ​In the morning of April 23rd, Mr. Nguyen Van Bien, Deputy Chairman of Vietnam Cooperative Alliance, representing the Central Steering Committee met with Quang Ngai provincial Steering Committee of National Target Program on building the new rural areas. As reported, so far, the National Target Program on new rural building in Quang Ngai has achieved lots of positive results. 19 subjects and 209 production development models have been approved and implemented, raising incomes for people in the province. Currently, in the provincial area, there is one commune reaching from 15 to 18 criteria, 32 communes reaching from 10 to 14 criteria, 64 communes reaching from 5 to 9 criteria, 67 communes reaching 4 criteria on new rural. The Ha Noi Police and Noi Bai International Airport on Monday set up a team of traffic police officials to increase safety at Noi Bai Airport.

Traffic safety rules tightened at Noi Bai This is being done as the passenger traffic at the airport is increasing and also in preparation for the operation of T2, the second terminal that is under construction. According to Major General Nguyen Duc Chung, director of the Ha Noi Police Force, the team was set up at the request of Minister of Public Security Major Tran Dai Quang and Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang. These leaders demanded increased mobilisation of traffic police officials to help the Noi Bai Airport staff ensure traffic safety and order at the airport. Chung said the police would focus on dealing with traffic violations which cause congestion to ensure safe and smooth traffic movement on the Bac Thang Long - Noi Bai road which leads to the airport. Cooperative sector makes positive contribution to economy

Over the last ten years, the cooperative sector has made a considerable annual contribution of 6.43 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product despite its meagre investment (0.63%) compared with the total investment capital in all economic sectors. Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai unveiled the figure at a ceremony marking the 20 th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliances (VCA) on October 29 in Hanoi. According to the Deputy PM, developing the cooperative economy should be part of the national process of industrialisation and modernisation, turning the country into an industrialised nation by 2020.
