Hosts Vietnam beat Australia 3-0 in the opening match of the International Women’s Volleyball Tournament VTV Cup in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak on August 15. Vietnam played on attack with spikers Nguyen Ngoc Hoa, Bui Thi Hue, Dinh Thi Dieu Chau and libero Ta Dieu Linh dominating their opponents, 25-16, 25-14, 25-10. Thailand came from behind yesterday to defeat the defending champions Viet Nam 20-25, 30-32, 25-13, 17-25 in the second semi-final match, while Liaoning won 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 over South Korea in the first. Ly Hoang Nam achieves highest ATP ranking for Vietnam

His successful run at Wimbledon has pushed Ly Hoang Nam 34 places up in the world rankings, according to a statement from the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) yesterday. The Vietnamese is now ranked 1,242nd – the best ranking in his career as well as a new high for tennis in the country. Nam and his Indian partner Sumit Nagal won the boys' doubles trophy on Sunday. They have been given a wild card to compete in the men's doubles event in London next year. The International Tennis Federation has not announced its latest ranking for juniors, but it is expected that Nam, currently at No 12, will be among the top 10. (VOV) - Six teams, including five from overseas, will compete in a much-awaited international women's volleyball tournament (VTV Cup) in Bac Ninh province from May 17-24. The foreign teams are from Thailand, Australia, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan, and Yunnan of China.
