Exhibition reviews Mekong Delta construction and development

(VOVworld) - A press conference was held in Can Tho City on Thursday to introduce an exhibition highlighting development in the Mekong River Delta over the past decade. The exhibition will take place late next month to mark the 37th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day and Vietnam's unification. Vietnamese students football tourney held in Moscow

A football tournament for the Vietnamese students in the summer of 2011 wrapped up in Moscow on June 12. Vietnamese student football tournament opens in Moscow The event attracted 15 football teams from 40 universities that have Vietnamese alumni. The Bauman Moscow State Technical University won the trophy, the Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University placed second and the Vietnamese Association of Fellow-Countryman Grup came in third. Hue Traditional Crafts Festival opens


The 2011 Hue Traditional Crafts Festival opened at the Ngo Mon Square in Hue City on April 30 to celebrate the Southern Liberation Day (April 30) and International May Day. Addressing the opening ceremony, Phan Trong Vinh, Chairman of the Hue municipal People's Committee, said the festival, under the theme of "Vietnamese Gastronomy in the Tranquility of Hue's gardens", aims to introduce cuisine and bonsai, both integral to Hue's identity. It is also a chance to honour artisans who are preserving the country's traditional crafts, particularly in Hue. Tourists flock to central region

The number of tourists to the central region on the occasion of Southern Liberation Day (April 30) and May Day has increased remarkably against the previous years. In the coastal areas of Da Nang city, Cua Dai in Hoi An ancient town, Lang Co beach in Thua Thien Hue province, some hotels have been fully booked. Especially, nearly 6,000 visitors have registered for visiting Cu Lao Cham island, up four times compared to normal days. To meet the visitors' demand for accommodation and travel, Hoi An city's Department of Trade and Tourism in the central Quang Nam province have put more than 60 high-speed ferries and boats into operation. Vietnamese students in Cuba celebrate Uncle Ho’s birthday

Vietnamese students have held a wide range of activities in Villa Clara and Matanzas provinces in Cuba to mark the 35th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day and the 120th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh. The Cuban Institute for Friendship with the People (ICAP) in coordination with the Vietnamese Embassy in Cuba and Las Villas University held a gala in Santa Clara City in May 13 with the participation of Vietnamese and Cuban students. "Don't burn!" - a film of director Dang Nhat Minh, was shown on May 1 at the Vietnam Culture Centre in Paris for a full room of nearly 100 viewers, who are both Vietnamese and French people. After the film, the audience had an opportunity to join in discussions with director Dang Nhat Minh. They expressed respect towards Dang Thuy Tram, the central character and also the army doctor who had dedicated her life to the country during the Vietnam war. Quang Ngai to hold requiem for Hoang Sa fleet


A troop banquet ceremony honoring and commemorating the Hoang Sa fleet which patrols the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes in the Nguyen Dynasty was held on Ly Son island in the central province of Quang Ngai on April 28. A procession taking tablets of soldiers to the An Vinh communal house is organizes in the ceremony honoring and commemorating the Hoang Sa fleet. The event is an age-old cultural belief of the people on the island aiming to pay tribute to the ancient strong army of Paracel cum Spratly who devoted their life to the country. Quang Tri holds requiem for fallen soldiers


More than10,000 tombs in the Truong Son national cemetery for fallen soldiers was lit by candles as part of the requiem on April 24. The event was held by the Quang Tri provincial Women's Union to mark the 35 th anniversary of Southern Liberation Day (April 30). Local leaders, together with 500 women, representing the Union attended the incense offering ceremony and a cultural programme in honouring the fallen soldiers. Students hold football tourney in Moscow

Sixteen teams of Vietnamese students who are studying at more than 30 universities and colleges in Moscow entered the final round of a football tournament on April 24. The opening game saw the fierce competition between Cup defenders Moscow Energy Institute and their rivals Obolen. Vu Ngoc Minh, a Moscow Energy Institute student, said such a tournament is very useful as it helps connect all Vietnamese students at training institutions in Moscow together. "More importantly, we have the chance to meet and share experiences, and we hope more similar events will be held in the future," Minh said. Requiem for war martyrs on Truong Sa island

A requiem will be held on Truong Sa island district on April 28 to pay tribute to and honour soldiers who laid down their lives for national liberation and unification. The Khanh Hoa provincial Buddhist Sangha's Executive Council says it will hold the mass at 08.00 hrs as part of activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Truong Sa's Liberation Day (April 29) and Southern Liberation Day (April 30). The event will also mark the 55th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Navy. The Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt held a press conference on April 22 to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam. Vietnam Airlines continues fare discounts to stimulate tourism


The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has said the company will continue to offer discounted airfares for tour operators participating in its tourism stimulus programme. The round-trip ticket price for Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City-Vinh, Hanoi-Can Tho or Hanoi-Buon Ma Thuot is VND1.8 million. Ho Chi Minh City-Da Nang-Hue round-trip ticket is only VND1.2 million. To qualify for the discounted price, a tour operator has to book tickets 15 days in advance for a group of at least 10 passengers.
