Haydn masterpiece to be sung in HCM City The oratorio The Creation, written by Joseph Haydn, a prominent Austrian composer of the 18th and early 19th century, will be performed at the HCM City Opera House on May 8 and 9. Considered to be one of the composer's masterpieces, the oratorio tells the story of God's creation of the world in six days as it is related in the Book of Genesis of the Old Testament. The classical orchestral work is structured in three parts and is scored for soprano, tenor and baritone soloists as well as a chorus. The performance, to be directed by well-known Norwegian conductor Lars Notto Birkeland, will feature international opera singers, including soprano Cho Hae Ryong, tenor Erlend Tvinnereim, baritone Halvor F. Melien, and the HCM City symphony orchestra and choir. Birkeland will play the harpsichord during the singers' recitatives. Long ago, France ruled the country that today is called Viet Nam. Vietnamese people did not like this and fought against the French to win back their homeland. One of the battles was fought at Dien Bien Phu. Many people have made a special trip to Dien Bien Phu to remember their national heroes. Among them were artists. Preserving Duong Lam ancient village The Hanoi municipal People's Committee has unveiled a plan to preserve and uphold the traditional values of Duong Lam ancient village in Son Tay town. Under the plan, Duong Lam village - a natural heritage site - will be preserved in a bid to maintain its original architecture and intangible values. It is part of a wider modern urban development scheme, focusing on infrastructure, tourism, local economic development, and environmental protection. Target areas include Mong Phu, Dong Sang, Cam Thịnh, Doai Giap and Cam Lam hamlets, and part of a rice field in Duong Lam commune, covering more than 164ha in total. Priority will also be given to protecting local residents' ancient houses and lifestyles. Hanoi will develop prioritized projects calling for the participation of all economic sectors to preserve the village in the event of urbanization. Concert to mark historic victory over French colonial forces HA NOI (VNS) — More than 100 performers and artists will tomorrow join a pilgrimage to Dien Bien Phu, where in May, 1954, the Vietnamese military defeated French colonial troops, ending the domination of the French in Indochina. The group will include several artists who were members of the military during the historical campaign: composer Hoang Van, writer Ho Phuong, poet Le Kim and military writer Chu Phac. Starting from Ha Noi, the pilgrims will go along National Highway No 6, which leads to the former resistance zone in the north-west. In fact, the road was used by Vietnamese military troops to reach Dien Bien Phu. The group will stop in Hoa Binh tomorrow and in Son La on Sunday before heading to the final destination about 480km from the capital. Nearly 200,000 sets of remains of martyrs found

PANO - Over the past 20 years, nearly 200,000 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs have been found in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, Le Kha Phieu, former General-Secretary wrote in a congratulation letter to the Research Center for Human Potential. The Centre, under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, held a get-together to review 20 years of seeking sets of remains of martyrs with special methods on January 23 rd in Hanoi. According to Major-General, Dr. Nguyen Chu Phac, from the Centre, different ESP practitioners have used their extra-sensory perception to search for sets of remains of martyrs. Attentively, some young ESP practitioners, including Le Trung Tuan and Nguyen Thi Thanh, have had rapid and precise results in seeking remains. 7,000 sets of remains discovered by ESP
