Haydn masterpiece to be sung in HCM City The oratorio The Creation, written by Joseph Haydn, a prominent Austrian composer of the 18th and early 19th century, will be performed at the HCM City Opera House on May 8 and 9. Considered to be one of the composer's masterpieces, the oratorio tells the story of God's creation of the world in six days as it is related in the Book of Genesis of the Old Testament. The classical orchestral work is structured in three parts and is scored for soprano, tenor and baritone soloists as well as a chorus. The performance, to be directed by well-known Norwegian conductor Lars Notto Birkeland, will feature international opera singers, including soprano Cho Hae Ryong, tenor Erlend Tvinnereim, baritone Halvor F. Melien, and the HCM City symphony orchestra and choir. Birkeland will play the harpsichord during the singers' recitatives. Nearly 200,000 sets of remains of martyrs found

PANO - Over the past 20 years, nearly 200,000 sets of remains of Vietnamese martyrs have been found in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, Le Kha Phieu, former General-Secretary wrote in a congratulation letter to the Research Center for Human Potential. The Centre, under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, held a get-together to review 20 years of seeking sets of remains of martyrs with special methods on January 23 rd in Hanoi. According to Major-General, Dr. Nguyen Chu Phac, from the Centre, different ESP practitioners have used their extra-sensory perception to search for sets of remains of martyrs. Attentively, some young ESP practitioners, including Le Trung Tuan and Nguyen Thi Thanh, have had rapid and precise results in seeking remains. 7,000 sets of remains discovered by ESP

Major General, Doctor Nguyen Chu Phac said that for the past over ten years, the centre has joined hands with scientists, telepaths, martyrs' relatives and veterans in seeking remains of those who sacrified their lives for the nation's independence. Such unique method, to date, has not been explained and is being researched. Uruguay's guitar duo Umbral staged a special performance in Hanoi on April 21. The event, hosted by the Uruguayan Embassy in Hanoi, drew the participation of representatives from the embassies of the Latin American and European countries such as Mexico, Cuba, Brazil and Spain. HA NOI (VNS) — A grand meeting held in the northern mountainous province of Thai Nguyen's Tan Trao Commune yesterday celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Tan Trao Congress of People's Representatives chaired by President Ho Chi Minh. During the congress from August 16 to 17, 1945, leaders hoped to decide the fate of the nation. Sixty representatives from the north, central and southern regions attended. They issued a general order for Viet Nam to seize its country back from colonial forces. PANO – The General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army on August 6th held a scientific symposium themed "The General Staff - Magnanimous traditions and glorious victories." This is one of the key activities to celebrate the 70th foundation anniversary of the General Staff (September 7th, 1945). The conference saw the attendance of high-ranking and former high-ranking officials of the State and armed forces, military and civilian scientists and researchers as well as historical witnesses. The organizing panel of the symposium received 70 reports in total. After the August Revolution, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam came into being and had to face various difficulties, challenges as well as enemies. With a theme of Nguyen Thi Binh – Memoir- Family, Friends and Country, the book features important periods in the active life of the leader, who is a grand-daughter of patriotic scholar Phan Chau Trinh (1872-1926). The book was translated by Lady Borton and edited by Nguyen Ngoc. NDO – Nhan Dan journalist Ha Thanh Giang, who accompanied Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the high-level Vietnamese delegation during an official visit to Algeria at the invitation of Algerian PM Abdelmalek Sellal, recapped the visit. Though Vietnam and Algeria are located in two different continents, far away from each other geographically, the two countries have enjoyed long-standing close traditional friendship throughout the changes of time. In the past, Vietnam’s victory in resistant wars against colonialism, particularly Dien Bien Phu victory against French colonists, set an example for Algerian people to strive for national independence.
