Passengers get refunds for long flight delays Airlines will have to refund fares and other charges to passengers of those flights at least five hours later than scheduled if requested, according to a new circular of the Ministry of Transport. Circular 81/2014/TT-BGTVT with effect from on March 1 regulates that airlines are responsible for providing passengers with full and updated information about their long-delayed flights, along with food and accommodation for the affected passengers. For flights postponed for two hours or longer, airlines must arrange appropriate flights for the affected passengers to travel to their destinations. In case of flights delayed for more than five hours, airlines shall refund fares and related fees to passengers. The circular also specifies that if flights are canceled, operators must announce the reasons and provide the affected passengers with accommodation and food. PANO - Veteran, wounded soldier Man Duc Lam in Ngan Cau village, Cho townlet (Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province) has always been upholding high determination and iron will of an Uncle Ho’s soldier to contribute to poverty alleviation in his native land for more than three decades since his demobilization. His great efforts have been paid off and he could lead his own family and many other households in the village out of poverty. This won him the respect and love of the villagers. Lam joined the army in February 1975 and fought in Regiment 64 of Division 320B. After the Liberation and Reunification Day (30th April), in November 1977, his regiment moved to the southwestern border province of Tay Ninh. Canadian man arrested for drug Customs officials at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City January 28 released that they arrested a Canadian man for drug trafficking. He was found hiding nearly 50,000 tablets of methamphetamine at the bottom of his suitcases when he was checked upon arriving in the country. The drug is estimated to sell for over VND20 billion (US$952,000) in the Vietnamese market. Hospital treats puffer fish patients Nghe An Province's general hospital yesterday said doctors were able to save three people suffering from food poisoning after eating puffer fish. The victims, from Cua Lo Town, were rushed to the hospital on Saturday night. According to family members, they ate puffer fish on their vessel while fishing, and developed nausea and headaches, before slowly losing consciousness. Doctors have warned residents in coastal areas not to eat puffer fish, due to a high risk of food poisoning. Man arrested for drug, weapons smuggling Border police in Moc Chau District and relevant law enforcement agencies detained a person on Saturday carrying weapons and 1.75kg of heroin. Facelift for HCM City Post Office stirs criticism Relate news HCM City Post Office gets facelift after 40 years A facelift for HCM City's 130-year-old post office has stirred critics for being too garish, even through the colours used matched those of the original building that is a landmark of the city. The building, at 2 Paris Commune in District 1 was built in 1886 by the French colonial government and, along with the Notre Dame Cathedral and Saigon Tax Centre, is considered a symbol of HCM City, making it a popular destination for foreign tourists and attracting thousands of visitors a day. Six fishermen rescued from sinking ship Two fishing boats from Quang Tri Province rescued six fishermen from Da Nang off the coast of Thua Thien – Hue Province yesterday, as well as towed their sinking ship. The Da Nang's Coastal Information Radio Station said yesterday that the fishing boat, DNA 90388TS, was half submerged in the waters off Thua Thien Hue Province on Saturday. As soon as receiving an SOS reporting the sinking ship, the fishing trawler QT 90099 TS rescued the six fishermen, before another boat, QT 90255 TS, towed the sinking ship to port. 4,000-year-old bones discovered in Ha Tinh Archaeologists have uncovered stone implements, pottery and human and animal bones and teeth, including rhinoceros feet, dating back four millennia in the central province of Ha Tinh, in a find hailed as giving new insights into Vietnam's post-stone-age culture. Six sentenced to death in drug case The People's Court of Dien Bien yesterday sentenced to death six defendants in the biggest drug trafficking case in the northern province to date.
