Christmas concert with Hanoi Ensemble Christmas is just around the corner, and to celebrate the special occasion, Manzi and Hanoi Ensemble have teamed up to present a special chamber concert. Come, sip some mulled wine and enjoy some favourite Christmas tunes - classical, folk, contemporary and popular. Hanoi Ensemble's musicians and teachers come from the Viet Nam National Academy of Music, and have performed in several concerts, festivals and cultural exchange programmes in the country and abroad. The members have studied both in Viet Nam and in well-known international conservatories. The concert will start at 8pm on Saturday at Manzi Art Space, 14 Phan Huy Ich Street. First private war remnants museum opens in Hanoi The first-ever private war remnants museum just opened in downtown Ha Noi. The museum features thousands of war objects gathered across the country over the past 20 years by Nguyen Manh Hiep, a war veteran. The collection, which includes bomb shells, soldiers' utilities and photos, is being displayed in a 30-sq.m yard in front of Hiep's house, No 9, lane 144/2, An Duong Vuong Road. National award for media coverage of VN launched The Party Central Committee's Commission for Publicity and Education and Steering Committee for External Information Services launched their first-ever award for Viet Nam-related journalism for overseas audiences yesterday in Ha Noi. Print newspapers, radio, television and e-newspapers published in Vietnamese and foreign languages, both domestically and overseas, are eligible for the prize. 4,000-year-old bones discovered in Ha Tinh Archaeologists have uncovered stone implements, pottery and human and animal bones and teeth, including rhinoceros feet, dating back four millennia in the central province of Ha Tinh, in a find hailed as giving new insights into Vietnam's post-stone-age culture. The team from Ha Tinh Museum undertook the dig from November 21 to December 1 and found, at a depth of two metres, an archaeological trove that included a human skeleton dated as being 4,000 years old. Six sentenced to death in drug case The People's Court of Dien Bien yesterday sentenced to death six defendants in the biggest drug trafficking case in the northern province to date. According to the indictment, ten persons formed a network that transported more than 120 kilogrammes of heroin via Laos to Ha Noi and Lang Son en route to China, between November 2012 and May 2013. Workers successfully evacuated from Libya Vietnam Airlines has successfully evacuated all 458 Vietnamese labours of Korean Huyndai Engineering Construction from war ravaged Libya. The last flight carrying 180 Vietnamese workers departed at 23.00 on August 11 from Cairo, Egypt and is scheduled to land in Noi Bai International Airport at 13.00 on August 12. Chinese man arrested for stealing taxi Police in the southern province of Binh Duong arrested a Chinese man on July 15 for allegedly stealing a taxi from Mai Linh Group. At around 1pm on July 12, Zhu Dong Cheng is said to have simply got into a taxi, parked near Song Than Trade Center in the town of Di An with its doors open, and drove away. After realising what had happened, the driver immediately informed the other drivers and the management. At 2pm, a group of Mai Linh taxi drivers found Zhu Dong Cheng driving the car towards Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park I (VSIP I). Ministry hails Ha Noi for clean water supply efforts Most of the water samples taken from plants that supply Ha Noi are of acceptable quality, an inspection by the Ministry of Health has found. Inspection results released at a workshop on Wednesday said the water samples matched "physical and micro-organism norms." Inspectors had collected more than 190 samples from 16 potable water plants and seven water supply stations in the city. New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam visited Nghe An province

New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Mr Haike Manning is paying a visit to Nghe An province on June 25-26. During his visit, Mr Ambassador will explore opportunities to enhance the trade, education, and disaster management links between New Zealand and the province. Since 2012, New Zealand has implemented a 3-year NZ$2.5 million project focused on developing and piloting a prototype system for dam and disaster management based on New Zealand best practice developed from public and private sector experience. This system will be rolled out across Vietnam. The project is a three way strategic partnership between New Zealand Crown Research Institute GNS Science, New Zealand engineering company Damwatch, and the Ha Noi Water Resources University. It is being carried out in the Hieu River catchments in Nghe An province - a major tributary of the Ca river, the third largest river in the nation.
