City extends operation time of Nguyen Hue Flower Street

Tran Hung Viet, deputy general director of Saigontourist Holding Company and head of the organizing committee of the Tet 2010 festival, said that other activities of the flower street were not changed. Of them, the walking street on Le Loi Boulevard with performances of traditional music and folk games will take place at night on February 16 as scheduled. The yearly Nguyen Hue Flower Street is a part of six main festivities in the downtown area to welcome the New Year. Other festivities include the Banh Tet (traditional sticky rice cake) making contest, fireworks displays, a music program and decorations along other streets, all entrusted to Saigontourist Holding Company. Exchange programme for AO victims to be held

Nearly 300 delegates including AO victims, war veterans, and ex-volunteers in 45 provinces and cities nationwide has paid floral tributes at the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the Heroic Martyr’s Monument on August 5. Earlier on August 4, the Vietnam Agent Orange (AO) victims Association in co-ordination with the Centre for Education of Historic Tradition organised a press conference to introduce an exchange programme for families of AO victims to mark the AO victims’ Day (August 10). The Centre’s director Le Xuan Niem said the exchange programme, will be launched on August 6 as a practical activity for people to share the pain with families of AO victims and promote the gratitude bearing tradition of the community. Businesses are still facing myriad difficulties in their operations in Vietnam, many said at the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) final-term meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday. The obstacles range from corrupt officers and erroneous software in the customs sector, to complicated paperwork and continual inspections in the field of tax, according to enterprises. The VBF, known as one of the first public-private dialogue projects implemented by the World Bank and its International Finance Corporation, is held every six months in Hanoi to establish regular channels of communication between foreign and domestic companies and the Vietnamese government. Most of the complaints raised at the Tuesday meeting are about tax and customs matters, even though Vietnam has launched many reforms within the two sectors. Italy to support Vietnam in opening garment, footwear tech centers

The Italian government will supply support for Vietnam to open two technology centers for the garment and footwear industries in 2016, a trade commissioner said on Sunday. The centers will be set up at two leading universities, one of which is the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Bruna Santarelli, a trade commissioner at the Italian Trade Commission in Vietnam, said at the Vietnam-Italy Strategic Dialogue. The event was held in Ho Chi Minh City as part of the official visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Vietnam.
