In separate meetings in New Delhi, Nhan and leaders of the two Parties discussed the development of their Parties and issues of mutual concern. The AEC will effectively eliminate the majority of tariffs across the region, leading to significant pressure from mass imports and a risk that Vietnamese products may lose out in the domestic market. Craft villages, a non-competitive and vulnerable part of Vietnam’s economy, will face greater challenges sparked by the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by the end of 2015. Speaking at a recent forum concerning the difficult outlook, Vu Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the advisory council at the Vietnam Craft Villages’ Association, put forward a number of suggested measures. He emphasised the necessity of enterprises operating in craft products to have basic knowledge of the AEC. Top 100 national products and services praised for development contributions

Some 100 businesses across the country receive the awards for the top Vietnamese brands of 2014 yesterday. — VNA/VNS Photo Nguyen Dan HA NOI (Biz Hub) — An awards ceremony for the top Vietnamese brands of 2014 honoured 100 businesses in Ha Noi yesterday. Fatherland Front leader receives Samsung Vietnam directors

At the reception, Nhan highlighted Samsung’s significant contributions to Vietnam through its medium- and long-term investments and scientific research studies, particularly the recent research collaboration with three major universities in Hanoi. He asked the company to consider providing additional living space for Vietnamese workers and said the front is willing to support Samsung’s operations in the country. According to the incoming General Director Han Myong-sup, the Samsung Vietnam complex in northern Thai Nguyen province currently employs 42,000 labours. The Kovalevskaia 2014 awards, honouring outstanding female scientists, has been presented to Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Lan, former deputy dean of the Thai Nguyen University of Agro-forestry, for her research into protective measures against animal diseases. A group of 16 scientists from the Hanoi Medical University and the Central Eye Hospital won the awards for their research into a new treatment method that uses stem cell technology to fix injuries on the ocular surface of the eye. Exhibition features heroic women in American War

Eighty-three-year old Nguyen Thi Lap could not hold back her tears as she recalled the experiences of female revolutionaries from the southern part of the country during the American War. From 1962, Lap had led the "Long-haired Army" in Mekong delta Can Tho city's Giai Xuan commune. "I have been jailed and tortured by the enemy many times, but when I was released, I immediately joined the movement again and encouraged other women to join." She also told Vietnam News that when she and her husband were away from home, participating in the resistance, her five-year-old daughter fell into a well and drowned. "I went crazy and wanted to kill myself," she said, crying, "but then I realised that many other women were even more unfortunate than me. Many of them lost one, two or even three children because of the war." Thousands of visitors flock to Tran Temple Festival

PANO – Tens of thousands of people gathered in the Tran Temple complex, Nam Dinh province, on March 5th to attend one of the country’s biggest festivals during the year. Present at the event were President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Nguyen Thien Nhan, Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang, and other tourists. After the incense offering ceremony, more than 200 selected local villagers paraded in the procession carrying the Seal from Co Trach to Thien Truong Temples where 14 Tran Kings’ plaques are located. Citizen reception centre improves complaint settlements

Source: VNA The Hanoi-based Centre for Citizen Reception has proposed a plan to implement the inspection coordination programme for the more efficient settlement of public complaints and denunciations at the grassroots level. The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, Government Inspectorate, Ministry of Justice, Vietnam Lawyers Association, and Vietnam Bar Federation are expected to join the programme. This move intended to serve the organisation of the Party Congresses at all levels in the run up to the 12 th National Party Congress, President of the VFF Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan was told while working with officials from the centre on March 3. Deputy PM congratulates health sector on Doctors’ Day

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has recognised Doctors' Day (February 27) by visiting health workers in the northern province of Vinh Phuc. He told people at the Herbalist Society in the province's Tam Dao district on February 26 to be innovative in using herbal remedies passed down generation to generation. He stressed that herbalists societies in Tam Dao and the greater Vinh Phuc province, an area featuring an abundance of precious medicinal herbs, are well positioned to make good use of these resources. NA Standing Committee discusses deputy election law The 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee commenced its 35th session in Hanoi on February 25, evaluating a number of laws, including laws on electing deputies to the NA and the People’s Councils. A national election council should be established once an election date is announced, and automatically disperse after the NA recognises the eligibility of the deputies to ensure the council operates effectively and economically, according to Phung Quoc Hien, Head of the NA Committee for Finance and Budget, and Truong Thi Mai, head of the NA Committee for Social Affairs, and other members of the standing committee.
