Canadian man arrested for drug Customs officials at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City January 28 released that they arrested a Canadian man for drug trafficking. He was found hiding nearly 50,000 tablets of methamphetamine at the bottom of his suitcases when he was checked upon arriving in the country. The drug is estimated to sell for over VND20 billion (US$952,000) in the Vietnamese market. Army Corps presents statue of General Vo Nguyen Giap to memorial house


PANO - A statue of General Vo Nguyen Giap was presented to the memorial house named after the General in An Xa village, Loc Thuy commune, Le Thuy district, Quang Binh Province on September 16th. The statue is presented bym Major General Nguyen Xuan Sang, former Commander of Army Corps 15 and the corps' cadres and troops as their token of gratitude to and admiration for General Vo Nguyen Giap's talent, righteousness, generosity and great contributions to the homeland and the army. The 75cm tall statue, 115kg in weight, is made of solid brass by Phuong Dung Mechanics Limited Company in Nam Dinh Province. Army Corps 15 conducts BV-12 exercise


PANO - Army Corps 15 and Companies 74 and 72 have jointly carried out an exercise, coded BV-12, with an aim to well prepare for any attack from the enemy penetrating into factories, to ensure achievements by laborers and to uphold political security, social safety and order in border areas. The exercise was directed by Major-General Nguyen Xuan Sang, Commander of the Army Corps 15. From a rear entrance of the rubber latex processing factory, small groups of the intruders jumped over fences to occupy the factory. Militia under Company 74 quickly moved to take control of strategic positions. Making use of the factory's corners, feet of trees, they launched counter-attacks on the intruders. Part of the company's forces teamed up with Gia Lai Border Guards, with support of professional dogs, chased remaining enemies who were trying to fire at the company's forces. PANO - A high-ranking military delegation, led by Senior Lieutenant-General Le Huu Duc, Deputy Defence Minister, has recently paid a visit to Corps 15 during its working visit to the Central Highlands. Having been briefed of the unit's achievements in implementing its assigned tasks by Major-General Nguyen Xuan Sang, Commander of the Corps, General Duc highly appreciated Corps 15's successes in doing business and in building up its strong armed and reserve forces, promoting combat readiness training quality and maintaining social order and security on border areas of Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces. President Truong Tan Sang pays a working visit to Corps 15


PANO - State President Truong Tan Sang paid a working visit to Command of Corps 15 on March 16 th. Having been briefed on the Corps by Major-General Nguyen Xuan Sang, Commander of Corps 15, President Sang highly appreciated the Corps' recent achievements in building a strong comprehensive unit and fulfilling the task of doing business in close cooperation with national defence and security as well as attracting ethnic workers and joining efforts to build new rural areas. Over the past time, Corps 15 has actively planted 3,500 ha and 150 ha of rubber trees in Laos and Cambodia, respectively, for mutual benefit to all. Military Corp receives emulation flag from the PM


PANO - On behalf of the Prime Minister, Major-General Nguyen Xuan Sang, Hero of People's Armed Forces, Labour Hero in the Renewal (Doi Moi) Process, Commander of Military Corps 15, gave the Company 75 the emulation flag from PM for its leading achievements, on the occasion of its 2011 Employee Congress on April 22nd. In 2010, the Company 75 enlarged the area of growing plants up to 856 hectares, contributing to tackling job problems. Moreover, the Company held classes on improving rubber tapping techniques to 273 ethnic minority workers, offered free check-ups and medicines to 575 local people, gave over 13 tonnes of rice to 1.350 needy households in between-crop periods, and more than VND 125 millions to needy students with good academic records. Army Corps build road for people in Gia Lai

PANO - A more than 25-kilometre asphalted road was put into use in Yen The Precinct, Gia Lai Province on March 27th. The road, named Truong Son, is a gift of Military Corps 15 to the local people before the unit host the Conference on "Honouring Outstanding Village Patriarchs" which is due to convene in the Highlands. The road, worth VND 25 billion, was built by the soldiers and officers of the unit in five months. Mr Dinh Van Ba, a local resident, said that without the help of the army, it would have been very difficult to build a road like that. Bridge construction to link Binh Phuoc Province with Canmbodia

The southern province of Binh Phuoc on March 29 broke ground at Hoang Dieu border crossing for the construction of the Song Mang Bridge, to link the province to the eastern province of Mondulkiri in Cambodia. The bridge will be 27.3 meters in length, 12 meters in width and will be built at a cost of VND11.94 billion. It is expected to be complete within 170 days. The Song Mang Bridge project marks the solidarity and friendship between the Vietnamese and Cambodian people. It will play an important role in transportation, trade and cultural exchange, as well as promote socio-economic development in Binh Phuoc and Mondulkiri Provinces. Head of Committee for People’s Aspiration appointed

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien.
