NA committee supports vote of confidence

Minh Duc The draft resolution on vote of confidence for senior officials elected by the NA and local people’s councils was put forward at the NA meeting on Tuesday. Chief of the NA Committee of Deputies’ Affairs Nguyen Thi Nuong deemed this as a step to realize the constitutional and legal provisions and remedy the shortcomings of the current procedures. She noted Resolution 4 of the 11th Party Congress had required vote of confidence to be conducted soon. According to the draft resolution, the vote of confidence will be held annually for the top officials elected or approved by the NA. NA deputies to vote on dismissal of Deputy Hoang Yen


At a closed meeting in the morning of this Saturday, the National Assembly will cast their votes on the dismissal of deputy DangThi Hoang Yen. Reasoning of "being sick," deputy Yen was absent from the opening session of the 3rd NA session on May 21. In the morning of May 21, the NA approved the agenda of the 3rd session. Vietnam leaders not to face confidence vote this year

The annual vote of confidence for legislators introduced last year, which garnered praise from the public, will not be held this year to enable revision of a related resolution. In the National Assembly, the vote had been planned to be held in an upcoming session. NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung told a meeting Tuesday that the house would discuss changes to Resolution No.35 at the May-June session. "The halt is temporary, not permanent," he said. Resolution No.35 requires leaders who serve in positions appointed or approved by the National Assembly and People's Councils -- the local legislatures -- to be subject to an annual vote of confidence by lawmakers in their respective houses. Voters have to choose one of three options: "high confidence," "confidence," and "low confidence."
