It also includes visions for the central region's key economic area to become the environmental technology zone on the basis of economic development, ecological balance and national harmonisation. New railline discussed

The Steering Committee of the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (Dacriss) held its third meeting under the co-presidency of the Danang People's Committee and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to JICA, along with the Danang-Quang Ngai Highway being considered for investment by the Vietnamese government, the project to upgrade the railway connecting Danang and Hue must also be researched and considered in the coming time. On 7 August, vice-chairman of the Danang People's Committee Van Huu Chien met with Mr. Motonori Tsuno, chief-representative of the office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Viet Nam to discuss cooperative relạtions between Danang and JICA in the coming time. Mr. Motonori reported that the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (DACRISS) sponsored by JICA is making good progress thanks to the close cooperation of related agencies and bodies. He said he hopes that the results of this research will benefit the overall development and planning of Danang in the future and the city will have more specific projects. He said a senior volunteer of JICA is working at the DanangHospital to maintain the equipment funded by JICA. On 16 June, the Steering Committee of the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (Dacriss) held its third meeting under the co-presidency of vice-chairman of the Danang People's Committee Van Huu Chien and Mr. Yoshifumi Omura, senior representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Representatives of the consultancy board and research team of JICA, the World Bank, research institutes, People's Committees of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and relevant agencies of Danang participated. The 3-year project, implemented since August 2013, has an overall goal of strengthening the resilience of society in Vietnam against water-related natural disasters by an integrated flood management (IFM) system. As the nation is celebrating the Flood, Storm and Calamity Prevention Day (May 22nd, 1946), IFM is a comprehensive approach to review all of existing development plans from the view point of flood risks and future impacts considering climate change. Japan to invest USD100 billion in Asian infrastructure

On May 19th, Jiji Press noted that the Japanese government was planning to spend up to USD100 billion in public-private funding for infrastructure development in Asian countries over the next five years. "The envisioned assistance is aimed at demonstrating Japan's position on contributing to build high-quality infrastructure throughout Asia through human resource development and technology transfers and demonstrating its strategical differences from the Chinese backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), ensuring that Japan keeps a high profile in the region", Jiji Press said. The French Development Agency (AFD) will provide Vietnam with a concessional loan of 20 million EUR (over 22.38 million USD) for phase five of the Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SPRCC) in Vietnam, as stipulated in an agreement signed on May 19. The deal was inked in Hanoi by French Ambassador to Vietnam Jean-Noel Poirier, AFD Director in Vietnam Remi Genevey, and Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Finance Truong Chi Trung. The AFD will disburse the money within this year, ahead of the 21 st United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) in Paris this December. The loan adds up to 100 million EUR (over 111.98 million USD) of the agency’s total support to the SPRCC. The SPRCC, initiated by the AFD and the Japan International Cooperation Agency in 2009, assists the Vietnamese Government in sector reforms to cope with climate change effectively and encourage the low CO2 emissions. The Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong province and the Japanese embassy in Viet Nam had a working to discuss Japan's support for Lam Dong in developing management mechanism, operation, technologies; and building agricultural parks. Viet Nam has abundant natural resources but the country has not yet exploited its potential and has low quality and productivity as a result. MYANMAR (Biz Hub) — Japan on May 11 signalled its intention to help develop multibillion-baht high-speed railway routes in Thailand while also investing in the Dawei port and industrial-estate projects in Myanmar. The development followed a meeting between Hiroto Izumi, special economic adviser to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House. Transport Minister Prajin Juntong said Thailand would sign a memo of cooperation with Japan this month on joint development of the Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi-Bangkok-Laem Chabang and Bangkok to Sa Kaew rail lines. National vaccine safety surveillance programme meets WHO requirements Vietnam’s surveillance of adverse events following vaccination meets the requirements of the World Health Organisation (WHO), said experts from the organisation. After a one-week mission to Vietnam from April 9 to review the implementation of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) in the country, the WHO team announced that all six components under Vietnam’s NRA system have passed the check with good results. The team, including 14 experts from the WHO and two observers from Russia urged the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health and the post-vaccination monitoring systems at all levels to continue their efforts in the field.
