New railline discussed

The Steering Committee of the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (Dacriss) held its third meeting under the co-presidency of the Danang People's Committee and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to JICA, along with the Danang-Quang Ngai Highway being considered for investment by the Vietnamese government, the project to upgrade the railway connecting Danang and Hue must also be researched and considered in the coming time. On 7 August, vice-chairman of the Danang People's Committee Van Huu Chien met with Mr. Motonori Tsuno, chief-representative of the office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Viet Nam to discuss cooperative relạtions between Danang and JICA in the coming time. Mr. Motonori reported that the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (DACRISS) sponsored by JICA is making good progress thanks to the close cooperation of related agencies and bodies. He said he hopes that the results of this research will benefit the overall development and planning of Danang in the future and the city will have more specific projects. He said a senior volunteer of JICA is working at the DanangHospital to maintain the equipment funded by JICA. With favourable natural conditions and a temperate climate, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong is well suited to become a leading supplier of farm produce for Japan , one of the most promising market in Asia , as heard at a workshop in Da Lat resort city on March 23. Work begins on major expressway segment Construction of an 18.7-km section of the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway, which will run through HCM City and Long An Province, began on Saturday. The project includes three intersections at Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway and HCM City-Trung Luong Expressway, National Highway No 1A, and National Highway No 50, according to the developer Expressway Viet Nam Expressway Corporation (VEC). With a total length of 57.1 km, the Ben Luc-Long Thanh Expressway runs through Long An Province's Ben Luc and Can Giuoc districts; Binh Chanh, Nha Be and Can Gio Districts in HCM City and Nhon Trach and Long Thanh districts in Dong Nai Province. The section is part of the national north-south expressway. Addressing the event, Deputy Health Minister Le Quang Cuong highlighted effectiveness of bilateral cooperation programmes in health care between Vietnamese agencies and foreign partners. He said he hopes for the further development of cooperation in health care, particularly cancer prevention and treatment between Asian countries as well as between Vietnam and Japan. Working team builds post-2015 climate change response programme

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has worked with other ministries to set up a working team for designing a Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change (SP-RCC) in 2016-2020, Deputy Minister Tran Hong Ha said at a meeting in Hanoi on March 11. The working team gathers leading experts in climate change and is divided into groups of policy, investment, and capacity and knowledge development, he said. The post-2015 SP-RCC will focus on actions to mitigate the climate change impact; increasing mobilisation and distribution of financial resources; enhancing the quality of policy dialogues and encouraging cooperation in the field. The programme is intended to build mechanisms for reporting and monitoring the progress of implementing the public-private partnership while stimulating renovation, enhancing capacity, and promoting inter-sectoral and inter-regional coordination, Ha said. Hung Le Katsuro Nagai of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam told a meeting with HCMC chairman Le Hoang Quan on March 5 that the city government is expected to support Japanese firms to invest in the commercial facilities at the central station near Ben Thanh Market in the center of the city. Nagai said Japanese enterprises have experience in developing underground commercial facilities. Metro Line No. 1 stretches 19.7 kilometers from Ben Thanh Market to Suoi Tien Park in District 9, consisting of 2.6 kilometers of underground track and 17.1 kilometers of overland and elevated track. As scheduled, the line will be completed in 2019 and put into operation in 2020. As designed, the Ben Thanh station covers about 18,000 square meters under Le Loi Boulevard. Le Anh The projects were put on the table for discussion at a meeting between Transport Minister Dinh La Thang and HCMC vice chairman Nguyen Huu Tin in the city on Wednesday. Tran Quang Lam, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Transport, suggested the ministry allocate funds for projects to build a road connecting Vo Van Kiet Boulevard and HCMC-Trung Luong Expressway, and upgrade and widen the National Highway 50 section in HCMC, and An Phu and My Thuy interchanges. The city also wanted to use the loans provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for metro projects 3A and 3B, and accelerate capital allocation for Binh Loi railway bridge spanning the Saigon River and the elevated rail road section from Hoa Hung to Binh Trieu. Cambodia sees rise in enterprises

Cambodia currently has 513,759 enterprises, an 11 percent rise from 463,360 firms in 2011, according to the 2014 Cambodia Intercensal Economic Survey (CIES). The firms are employing as many as 1.87 million labourers, it said. Its capital, Phnom Penh, has 97,200 companies within its boundaries, followed by Kampong Cham with 54,231, Kandal with 38,679, Siem Reap with 37,622, and Takeo with 32,780. The number of enterprises employing over 100 employees rose 14 percent from 2011, according to the survey, attributed to businesses shifting their investments to the agriculture, industry and service sectors. Japanese loan to help Da Nhim power plant

Da Nhim-Ham Thuan–Da Mi hydropower JSC started expanding Da Nhim Hydro Power Plant on February 10. – VNA Photo Ngoc Ha NINH THUAN (Biz Hub) – Power Generation Corporation 1 (Genco 1) and Da Nhim-Ham Thuan–Da Mi hydropower joint-stock company on February 10 launched the Da Nhim hydropower plant expansion in the southern province. The investment capital for the project is estimated to be more than VND1.9 trillion (US$92 million), of which the investor's funds are VND300 billion ($14 million), while the rest is a loan granted by the Japanese government and disbursed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to Chairman and General Director of the power company Nguyen Trong Oanh, the Da Nhim power plant will have a new turbine of 80MW, increasing the plant's capacity from 160MW to 240MW. Ho Chi Minh City sewage treatment factory gets upgrade

Ho Chi Minh City and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) began work on the upgrade of a sewage treatment factory in Binh Chanh district on February 7. The project has a total investment of 2.8 trillion VND (133 million USD), including the construction of a sewage treatment area, mud treatment zone and electrical supply system. Under the project, the Binh Hung sewage treatment factory’s capacity will increase almost three times, from the current 141,000 cu.m per day and night to 469,000 cu.m, ensuring the treatment of waste water discharged from districts 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11 and reducing water pollution in the Tau Hu-Ben Nghe canal. Construction is expected to take 54 months. The plant, part of the Ca Mau Gas-Electricity-Fertiliser Complex, is designed to process 6.2 million cubic meters of natural gas taken from gas fields in the south-western region on a daily basis. It is expected to diversify highly-value oil and gas products in the region, ensure the national energy security, and contribute to the local socio-economic development.
