Dacriss, a technical project under the Japanese Government's official development assistance programme, gave out potential and opportunities of economic development strategy for the city and its nearby areas. It also includes visions for the central region's key economic area to become the environmental technology zone on the basis of economic development, ecological balance and national harmonisation. New railline discussed

The Steering Committee of the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (Dacriss) held its third meeting under the co-presidency of the Danang People's Committee and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). According to JICA, along with the Danang-Quang Ngai Highway being considered for investment by the Vietnamese government, the project to upgrade the railway connecting Danang and Hue must also be researched and considered in the coming time. On 7 August, vice-chairman of the Danang People's Committee Van Huu Chien met with Mr. Motonori Tsuno, chief-representative of the office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Viet Nam to discuss cooperative relạtions between Danang and JICA in the coming time. Mr. Motonori reported that the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (DACRISS) sponsored by JICA is making good progress thanks to the close cooperation of related agencies and bodies. He said he hopes that the results of this research will benefit the overall development and planning of Danang in the future and the city will have more specific projects. He said a senior volunteer of JICA is working at the DanangHospital to maintain the equipment funded by JICA. On 16 June, the Steering Committee of the Integrated Development Strategy for DanangCity and Its Neighboring Areas (Dacriss) held its third meeting under the co-presidency of vice-chairman of the Danang People's Committee Van Huu Chien and Mr. Yoshifumi Omura, senior representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). JICA helps Dong Nai develop water-supply system

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has pledged a credit worth 140 million USD to build the second phase of the Nhon Trach water plant in the southern province of Dong Nai. Representatives from the provincial People's Committee and JICA met on November 10 to discuss procedures and conditions for the project's implementation. Quang Ninh police nab smugglers The Mong Cai City Police in the northern province of Quang Ninh yesterday temporarily detained Dang Thi Mai Lan, 36, for smuggling cigarettes. Lan was caught in the act on Monday in Ka Long Ward, while transporting 2,060 packets of cigarettes of the Zenlong brand that is manufactured abroad. Lan admitted to the police that she had bought the cigarettes in China. On Wednesday, the Mong Cai Police also caught Nguyen Ngoc Anh, 40, who was illegally keeping smuggled goods in a store in Tran Phu Ward. A meeting on the Post-2015 Support Programme to Respond to Climate Change in Vietnam (SP-RCC), co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) Tran Hong Ha and Deputy Resident Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Suzuki Tadashi, was held in Hanoi on November 6. Ebola virus disease laboratory diagnostics training course in Vietnam

A team of seven Vietnamese laboratory researchers has been trained to test for the Ebola virus disease as part of ongoing efforts of the Vietnamese Government and international partners to prepare for a possible case of Ebola virus disease in the country. They came from the Virology Department of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh city, the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Tropical Diseases Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh city. Laboratory staff in Vietnam had not been trained to test for Ebola virus infection so far. Although the risk for the virus to spread to Vietnam is currently low, the World Health Organization's (WHO) road map on Ebola recommends all countries, including Vietnam, to strengthen preparedness to rapidly detect and respond to an Ebola virus disease case.
