By 19.00 dated 22 May 2011, Thua Thien Hue province ended the election for delegations of the National Assembly Session XIII and the People's Council of all levels in the term 2011-2016 with the ratio of consituents reaching 99,99%. In which, three districts and towns ended the election early and successfully, reaching 100 percent. In accordance with the report of the provincial electoral committee, in Thua Thien Hue there are 790,190 consituents in the list of the province. In which, 790.118 voters casted their ballots, reaching the ratio of 99.99%. Conference discusses key role of Army in fight against crime

HA NOI (VNS)— The army held a key role in fighting crime, said Deputy Prime Minster Nguyen Xuan Phuc yesterday. Phuc made the statement at a conference held by the Ministry of National Defence to review a campaign against crime, illegal drugs, smuggling and trade fraud. He said each soldier should join the fight against smuggling and preventing trade fraud. Phuc also said the ministry should work more effectively in inspecting border lines and crime hot spots so it could introduce appropriate controls. He also instructed the ministry to closely work with neighbouring countries that share borders with Viet Nam. During the three-month anti-crime campaign that began last December, authorised agencies handled 245 cases of drug smuggling involving 300 people and 120kg of heroin. The army also handled another 4,600 cases involving security, arrested 26 people for people trafficking and rescued 33 victims. The Government is working to ensure that even disadvantaged people can celebrate the Lunar New Year pleasantly to welcome a prosperous year. Last weekend, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan presented Tet gifts to 400 policy beneficiary families and Agent Orange/dioxin victims in the southern province of Bac Lieu and Tra Vinh. Deputy Prime Minster Nguyen Xuan Phuc also presented gifts to war veterans and heroic Vietnamese mothers in the central city of Quang Ngai. During his working visit to the location on February 3, he asked local authorities to ensure that no one will go hungry during Tet. Meanwhile, the Government’s support programme helped local authorities in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai deliver 185 tonnes of rice to about 17,000 poor people, mainly from the Mong, Dao and Ha Nhi ethnic groups.
