Viet Nam hopes to build on relations with Indonesia Viet Nam and Indonesia reached an agreement to foster comprehensive co-operation, particularly in economics, culture, education and peace in the East Sea, during talks in Ha Noi yesterday, March 3. Meeting with Speaker of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly Sidarto Danusubroto, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said he believed the visit would tighten ties between the two nations, in particular their legislatures. He expressed hope that Indonesia would realise its goal of becoming one of the world's top 10 economies by 2025. Vietnam advocates the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phuong Nga declared at a conference in Indonesia this weekend. Nga affirmed that the Southeast Asian nation supports Palestine's fight for independence at the second Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) in Jakarta on Saturday. Nga specifically said Vietnam fully backs the just struggle of the Palestinian people to reclaim its basic rights, including the rights to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Vietnam fully backs the just fight of the Palestinian people to reclaim their basic rights, including the rights to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phuong Nga has declared. At the second Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) in Jakarta on March 1, Nga made it clear that Vietnam supports all regional and global efforts to seek a comprehensive, fair and sustainable solution to the Israeli-Arabian/Palestinian conflict in harmony with the United Nations' Resolutions, ensuring legitimate interests of all parties concerned for peace and stability in the region. Indonesia, Palestine step up cooperation

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah on February 28 paid an official visit to Indonesia to attend the second conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD II). He was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Malki, National Economic Minister Jawad N.A.Hirzallah, and Minister of Planning and Administrative Development Mohammad Abu Ramadan. This his first visit to Indonesia since he took office in June 2013. While staying in Indonesia, PM Hamdallah held talks with Indonesia President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, during which they compared notes on issues of mutual concern, especially ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riad al-Maliki said yesterday/ on Thursday that Palestine was willing and ready to engage in peace process with Israel if it could show more of readiness in the process. Al-Maliki made the remarks at a press conference after the first meeting of the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestine Development (CEAPAD). He said Palestine has been "very much willing and ready to engage into peace process with Israel," but emphasized that the process depends on the attitude of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. UNICEF representative recognised for her work

HA NOI (VNS)— Lotta Sylwander, Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Viet Nam, has been awarded the "For Peace and Friendship among Nations" commendation for her humanitarian work. President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong presented the award to the UNICEF Chief Representative in Ha Noi yesterday. With her 20 years of experience, Lotta Sylwander has led UNICEF in Viet Nam to focus on issues such as child protection, social sponsoring, the disabled and ethnic minority groups. Army praised for following Uncle Ho Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has praised the army's efforts in following President Ho Chi Minh's moral practice, which helps to promote the army's glorious tradition and contributes to national construction and defence. Trong told a meeting held last Saturday to honour representatives of military role models in the campaign to learn from President Ho Chi Minh's moral example. Ireland helps to clear bombs

Ha Noi (VNS)- Ireland has offered to assist Viet Nam in clearing unexploded bombs, mines and other explosive devices left over from the American War. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the visiting Irish Minister for Trade and Development, Joe Costello, and the president of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations, Vu Xuan Hong, in Ha Noi on Monday. Ireland has also agreed to help support disabled people, including war victims. Irish Aid official Margaret Gaynor receives peace insignia

HA NoOI — Deputy director of the Irish Aid Agency Margaret Gaynor has been awarded the "For Peace and Friendship among Nations" insignia for her great contribution to boosting aid to Viet Nam during her term in the country. Don Tuan Phong, vice president of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations, presented the award in Ha Noi yesterday. Gaynor played a key role in building aid programmes for Viet Nam in the 2011-15 period, focusing on reducing poverty among ethnic groups, boosting economic development and supporting the participation of foreign non-governmental organisations in Viet Nam's development. In November 2009, the United Nations instituted Nelson Mandela International Day on July 18th to recognise the contributions of the former South African President, who devoted 67 years of his life to his community, his country and the world, promoting a culture of peace and freedom. Yesterday, the diplomats and representatives gave gifts to the children, including six sewing machines, two television sets and five electric fans. Photo exhibit marks ties with Philippines

HA NOI — A meeting was held in Ha Noi yesterday to mark the 35th anniversary of the founding of diplomatic ties between Viet Nam and the Philippines. President of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong and Philippine Ambassador Jerril G. Santos reviewed the co-operative history between Viet Nam and the Philippines.
