Artists paint a picture of Mongolia's wild beauty Landscapes, portraits of daily life, and the beauty of women of Mongolia are the themes of a painting exhibition that opened at the HCM City Union of Literature and Arts Associations on Tuesday. Works on show at the An Tuong Mong Co (Mongolian Impression) include the latest oil, acrylic, lacquer and watercolour paintings by 11 artists of the city's Women Painters Club as well as three male artists. Painter Dang Thi Duong said: "Last July, the female artists were invited to participate in the biannual international exhibition Her Presence in Colours in Mongolia. On display are the paintings which are results of our 10-day trip to the beautiful and peaceful country." For the exhibition, Duong has displayed four oil landscape paintings. She has used vivid colours of blue, pink and red along with dark colours to make the painting stand out, especially in the work Dem He O Thao Nguyen (Summer Night on the Steppe). Authorities bust traffickers for transporting firecrackers Several individuals were caught transporting forbidden commodities over the past few days, alerting authorities to the worsening problem of trafficking during the days approaching Tet (lunar new year). In Quang Ninh Province's Ha Long City yesterday, a team of economic and traffic police caught container driver Tran Van Dang transporting 17kg of made-in-China firecrackers. The Hai Duong Province resident said he purchased the goods in Mong Cai City for VND800,000 (US$37) and intended to resell them for profit. City police are completing the necessary documents to charge Dang with transport of forbidden goods. Bus fare reductions for holiday travellers Following decreases in fuel prices, Ho Chi Minh City’s bus fares during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year festival) are expected to drop by 7 to 20 from last year, unveiled the municipal Ministry of Transport on January 22. According to agency statistics, 110 of 130 operators in the Mien Tay bus station and 115 of 214 operators in the Mien Dong station have reduced transport fares thus far. Only five operators have announced their intent to increase their ticket costs for some routes. Currently, the industry is experiencing increased demand on the people’s travel as the holiday season quickly approaches. On January 4, petrol prices were cut by 1,900 VND per litre, the second reduction this month. The price of RON 95 was down to 16,270 VND while the prices of RON 92 and bio-fuel E5 were reduced to 15,670 VND. Forest inventory, supervision project added more capital

VGP – The PM has agreed to supplement VND319.699 billion to launch a forest inventory and supervision project in 25 provinces in the 2014-2015 phase. Of which, VND200 billion will be allocated from the State budget in 2014 for the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) (VND30.778 billion), the Ministry of Public Security (VND1.784 billion) and 21 provinces of Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Binh Thuan (VND167.438 billion). VND119.699 billion will be arranged from the State budget in 2015 for the MARD. Fishing boat rescued near Truong Sa A fishing boat and its 13 crew members were rescued at sea near Viet Nam's Truong Sa (Spratly) Islands after sending an SOS on Wednesday. The boat's crew belongs to Ly Son Island's An Hai Commune in the central province of Quang Ngai. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, head of the An Hai Commune Fishing Union, confirmed yesterday that the union had received an SOS from fishing boat QNg 96156 TS, which was stranded off the island of Thuyen Chai in the Truong Sa Islands of Khanh Hoa Province. Other fishing boats nearby failed to approach the boat due to big waves and the rough sea. However, ship HQ561 from Navy Zone 4 was able to tow the fishing boat to anchor on Thuyen Chai Island. S.Korea firm to sue workers for loss-causing strike Striking workers at a South Korean-invested firm in HCM City will be sued for losses caused to the company. Some 800 workers at Carimax Sai Gon Ltd. Co. went on strike January 3 after the company declined to pass on a mandated rise in minimum wages. Company officials said on January 12 that workers who failed to carry out their duties for five consecutive days would be sacked and sued for losses incurred by the company. Carimax said trade union intervention had failed to resolve the strike. The government decreed last year minimum wages would rise by VND250,000-400,000 (USD11.9-USD19) a month, depending on region, from January 1, 2015. But on December 27, the board of directors at Carimax said that because of 2014 losses, the pay rise would be determined according to each worker's attitude, capability and experiences. Health authority tests strange snail to verify cause of fishermen’s deaths The Department of Food Safety in the central province of Ha Tinh sent the snail, that caused the deaths of three fishermen on January 5, to the Ministry of Health’s Food Administration of Vietnam. Dr. Phan Van Hung, head of the Department of Food Safety, yesterday said that his department will test the snails to verify soon the deaths of the three fishermen. As newspaper released yesterday, three fishermen including Tran Xuan Thuc and Tran Van Duong both at 29 year old and Duong Van Tinh, 22 in Tinh Gia District of the northern province of Thanh Hoa died after eating strange snail though they were taken to the province’s General Hospital for emergency treatment by border safeguards. "We are confident but very careful. Hai Phong have a hard way of playing.
