HCMC leaders visit senior medical staff on Doctor’s Day

Leaders from Ho Chi Minh City on February 25 paid visits and greeted senior medical staff and doctors on the 60th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctor’s Day on February 27. Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Secretary Le Thanh Hai, led a delegation to visit families of late Professor-Doctor Nguyen Thien Thanh, who was a former director of Thong Nhat Hospital, and of passed-away Doctor Duong Quang Trung who was a former director of the city’s Department of Health on February 25. At the house of Professor Nguyen Thien Thanh, Mr. Hai burnt incense, expressing his gratitude to the professor’s contribution to the health sector including scientific researches and training next generation. VietNamNet Bridge – The 25-member national men's and women's volleyball teams will be summoned on Saturday in preparation for the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. Both key players and fresh members, especially in the women's team, will be called. There are no great changes to the men's line-up, which includes veterans such as Nguyen Huu Ha, Le Quang Khanh, Tu Thanh Thuan and Hoang Van Phuong, as well as Giang Van Duc. Coach Phung Cong Hung has added some new players too, including Nguyen Van Du, Le Hoai Han and Nguyen Cong Chien. But he has ignored rising players Luu Dinh Toan, Bui Thien Men and Bui Van Hai. A large number of the female veterans will be absent, but this had been predicted earlier. Young Korean artists display ceramic works and drawings in Hanoi Two young Korean artists, Baek Jin and Pae Sung Hee, who are highly appreciated all over the world by their creativity and innovation in arts, are showcasing their 25 artworks at an exhibition opened on December 24 at Korean Cultural Centre in Hanoi. Newspaper fined for inaccuracy The Ministry of Information and Communications' Deputy Chief Inspector, Do Thi Tinh, has decided to fine the Dan Viet online newspaper VND 15 million (US$714) for publishing inaccurate information. The story in question, "The world's most magnificent presidential palaces," was carried on November 2. The paper could appeal or contest the decision, the ministry said. USAID grants US$1.5 mil to HCM City's metro project The US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railways signed a grant agreement on September 18 for a feasibility study on fully integrated information solutions for the central control of a metro system in HCM City. This is the third time USTDA has provided non-refundable aid to help the city implement an urban railway system. Bui Xuan Cuong, head of the Ho Chi Minh City Management Authority for Urban Railways said the project has a total projected cost of US$1.5 million, of which US$900,000 is sourced from USTDA, US$600, 000 from Cisco Systems and the remaining from the city's budget. … [Read more...]

Thanks to enhancing the movement of farmers producing and trading well (PTW), so far, lots of peasant households in Dong Xuan district have not only got rid of poverty but also enjoyed favorable conditions to strive for being well-off. Some households even earn an annual income of millions of hundreds of dongs. Dong Xuan farmers' association now has 63 member branched, 187 groups with 7,244 members. Annually, the district's association organizes the movement of farmers emulating to PTW to all branches before propagating and popularizing to all farmers. Two Chinese citizens cross the border with $900,000 in cash According to the Hai Quan (Customs) Newspaper, in late August the customs body of the Xa Mat border gate in the southern province of Tay Ninh detected two Chinese citizens illegally transporting three suitcases and a cardboard box containing VND18.2 billion ($900,000). The cash was scheduled to be brought from Vietnam to Cambodia.
