Nhan Dan Online – The northern mountainous province of Dien Bien should make use of its advantages and mobilise resources from the community to step up its new rural construction programme.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh made the suggestions during his January 9 working session with Dien Bien provincial authorities on the implementation of its 2013 socio-economic development tasks and of the national target programmes on new rural development and sustainable poverty reduction.
Speaking highly of the province’s results in recent years, Deputy PM Ninh said that the programmes target local residents, helping lift them out of poverty and improve their material and spiritual lives.
He urged Dien Bien leaders to work closely together with the people to fully grasp the Party and State’s policies and guidelines and to promote agricultural production to successfully implement the new rural development programme.
All people and officials should be involved in new rural construction, Ninh said, urging the promotion of public information campaigns to help people better understand the role and important values of the target programmes.
The deputy PM stressed the need to improve the management capacity of the province’s civil servants at the communal level and to prioritise enhancing living conditions for its people, especially those living in difficult circumstances, to enjoy the upcoming Lunar New Year.
According to reports presented by Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee Chairman Mua A Son, the province’s economic growth in 2013 was estimated at 8.55 percent. Income per capita reached VND20.41 million, up 16.2 percent compared with 2012.
Poverty alleviation efforts have achieved important results, as the poverty rate recorded on December 30, 2013 was 14.79% lower than in 2010.
