Da Nang has provided VND75 billion ($3.57 million) to build offshore fishing vessels for local fishermen and to train captains. The city has 206 vessels with capacity of 90CV-400CV, and 94 teams of fishermen.

Gender imbalance at alarming level
According to the General Statistics Office, Viet Nam’s gender ratio at birth in 2013 stood at an alarming rate, 113.8 boys per 100 girls, higher than last year, which was 112.3 boys per 100 girls. The male-to-female ratio rose to 97.91 men per 100 women, while last year saw 97.86 men per 100 women.

HCM City fire police inspect shops before Tet
The HCM City Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department inspected 4,229 manufacturers and services facilities in December to ensure fire safety before Tet.
They handed out fines totalling VND600 million ($28.570) to 431 facilities and forced two manufacturers to suspend operations. This month, 37 fires occurred in the city, leaving five people injured.

Tra Vinh mobilises funds to build sea dikes
The Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh has asked the Government to provide funds to build sea dikes along the seashore in Hiep Thanh and Duyen Hai districts. The two-kilometre dike will cost more than VND225.9 billion ($10.7 million).
