(CPV) – Thirty outstanding Vietnamese have been offered the prestigious New Zealand ASEAN scholars awards for pursuing the postgraduate courses in New Zealand commencing in early 2014.
Those high profile scholars and professionals come from a wide range of backgrounds and sectors across Vietnam, including public institutions, NGOs and private enterprises. They will pursue Doctoral and Masters Degrees at New Zealand’s tertiary institutions in a variety of fields that include agriculture, aquaculture, environment, hazard and disaster management, tourism, applied linguistics, finance, business, communication, international relations and human rights.
According to a press release issued by the New Zealand Embassy in Hanoi, around USD3 million has been allocated for these scholarships to Vietnamese scholars in 2013/2014, which are part of New Zealand’s official development assistance to South East Asia.
These 30 Vietnamese scholars will have access to New Zealand’s world class education, which is known for encouraging critical, creative thinking, and which results in internationally recognized qualifications. The new skills and knowledge acquired in their areas of expertise that will contribute an important way to Vietnam’s future development.
New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Haike Manning said the New Zealand – ASEAN scholar awards will empower individuals with knowledge, skills and qualifications to contribute to economic, social and political development within their home country.
The call for applications for the next New Zealand – ASEAN scholars awards intake (for study in 2015) will be made in early 2014./.
