PANO – Each fishing boat from Hon Ro Port has caught about 200- 300kg of anchovies in a fishing voyage, though the 2013 anchovy season is coming to an end.
The Hon Ro fishing port in Phuoc Dong commune, Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province, in late August was still busy. Fishermen have worked hard for themselves and for the local economy.
According to ship owner Tran Minh Cuong, catching anchovies is hard, heavily dependant on weather and currents. Fishing boats often depart at about 1am, fishing 10-15 nautical miles offshore, and return at 5am to unload. In mid-season, each boat can catch about 1.5 tonnes of anchovies.
As the largest fishing port in the South Central coast, Hon Ro Port can receive fishing ships from 400 to 1,000CV to dock, and can shelter thousands of boats from storm.
