Mekong river delta cycling tournament 2013

(CPV) - The Mekong river delta cycling tournament 2013 opens on August 12 at Ba Son shipbuilding yard, with the participation of 21 teams including the national mountain bike squad and amateur TRU cycling-Tamouh club from the US.

Cyclists will compete in sections totalling over 900 km, from Ho Chi Minh city through 13 provinces and cities, ending to Long Xuyen city (An Giang province) on August 20.

The event lures the best Vietnamese athletes in cycling, competing for a total of VND264 million prizes. The yellow jersey will receive VND25 million, while the blue jersey will pocket VND7 million.

Mr Doan Kim Phach, Vice chairman cum General Secretary of Vietnam Cycling Federation said that doping tests for Vietnamese athletes in general and for domestic tournaments in particular is a “luxury job”. The price of the tests is high, so athletes are requested to be self-confident and respect their own health.
Fans expect to see tough competition between young athletes Tran Thanh Dien, Pham Phat Dat (Sai Gon plant protection), Ho Huynh Van An, Ha Thanh Tam (An Giang plant protection), Nguyen Hoang Sang (ADC- Vinh Long Television) and Tran Le Minh Tuan (7 military zone), and big names like Mai Nguyen Hung, Le Van Duan (Eximbank Ho Chi Minh city), Bui Minh Thuy, Trinh Duc Tam (ADC-Vinh Long Station) and Nguyen Thanh Tam (An Giang plant protection).

Le Van Duan from the national squad is the 1st seed for excellence blue jersey, together with Tran Van Quyen (Military Zone 7), Do Tuan Anh (Pharmaceutical Domesco Dong Thap), Bui Minh Thuy and Nguyen Thanh Tam.

Ho Chi Minh City, Military Zone 7, Dong Thap province, Vinh Long province and An Giang province are strong competitors for top position.

Former national member Vu Quang Sang (who competed for Ho Chi Minh City public security and national squad at SEA Games 17) will join the event under TRU Cycling-Tamouh club.

The initial schedule is section 1 (August 12) from Ho Chi Minh City to Ben Tre city (70 km), section 2 (August 13) from Tra Vinh city to Cao Lanh city (Dong Thap province – 110 km), section 3 (August 14) from Cao Lanh city to Can Tho city (84 km), section 4 (August 15) from Can Tho city to Ca Mau city (176 km), section 5 (August 16) from Ca Mau city to Soc Trang city (117 km), section 6 (August 17) from Soc Trang city to Vi Thanh city (85 km), section 7 (August 18 from Rach Gia city (Kien Giang province) to Ha Tien town (92 km), section 8 (August 19) from Ha Tien town to Long Xuyen city (148 km), and section 9 (August 20): point-checking via 30 rounds of Long Xuyen city (30 km)./.
