More than 600 Vietnamese and foreign athletes are taking part in the 20th International Open Athletics Tournament, which kicked off in Ho Chi Minh City on July 20.
This year’s tournament attracted the participation of over 130 guest athletes from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore.
In the first day of competition, Vietnamese athletes won four gold medals. The medalists include Nguyen Thi Huyen (women’s 400m), Nguyen Huu Tuong (men’s 400m), Do Thi Thao (women’s 800m) and Duong Van Thai (men’s 800m).
The two-day event offered Vietnamese athletes a good opportunity to improve their competition results before participating in the 27th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Myanmar later this year.
