The HCM City Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control has provided swimming training for children in Districts 2, 4, 7, 8, 12, and Nha Be this summer.
Districts 2 and 8 saw 500 children each attend the programme, while in the other districts there were 1,000 each. The city launched a programme in 2010, making swimming compulsory for children to protect them from drowning.

Binh Phuoc aims to scrap hydro-projects
The Binh Phuoc Province People’s Committee is seeking approval from the Ministry of Industry and Trade to call off eight small-sized hydroelectric power projects because of delays in implementation and possible harm to the environment.

City student support centre shines through
The HCM City Student Support Centre offered 12,211 jobs to students in the first half of the year. It also provided regular jobs to 1,570 graduates by collaborating with 560 businesses.
In the first half, 4,256 businesses registered with it to find 15,027 workers.

Yen Bai eyes investment in infrastructure
Yen Bai City in the northern province of the same name is seeking investment in 30 infrastructure projects, including bridges, roads, urban infrastructure, and facilities in industrial zones.
Nguyen Lam Thang, Chairman of the city People’s Committee, said the city is focused on infrastructure aiming to become the province’s hub and to play an important role in the development of the Ha Noi – Viet Tri – Yen Bai – Lao Cai urban chain.

MoT tables 22 new transport projects
The Ministry of Transport has commissioned 22 transport projects related to road, highway and railroad construction during the rest of this year at a cost of VND150 trillion (US$7.14 billion).
They include five with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank, 12 with public funding, and two build-operate-transfer projects.
The ministry also announced a list of 41 projects for which the deadlines for completion are year-end.
