(VOVworld) – A movement to build new rural areas while building and promoting an advanced Vietnamese culture filled with national identities has been launched in many localities. VOV reporter Vinh Phong looks at the movement’s initial results.
The 5th plenum of the 7th Party Central Committee issued a resolution 15 years ago on building and promoting an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identities. Resulting efforts have connected culture with other social fields and contributed significantly to socio-economic development in many localities. The Vietnam Farmers’ Union has incorporated the resolution with the movement of building new rural areas to create a momentum for economic development while improving farmers’ lives. The target is to inspire unity and mutual support in production and daily life for the development of rural areas. Nguyen Hong Ly, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, says: “The Union’s branches have encouraged farmers to get involved in building new rural areas through practical activities. They have donated land, millions of USD, and tens of millions of workdays to build roads, classrooms, and cultural houses, extend electricity grids, and upgrade water supplies and irrigation facilities.”
Hoang Suong, Chairman of Son La province’s Farmers’ Union, said the province has blended cultural activities with economic development to encourage role models in building new rural areas. Bui Mai Hoa, Chairwoman of Ninh Binh Farmers’ Union, said the Union socialized cultural activities and replicated role models:”The Farmers’ Union plays a key role in building new rural areas. We have informed all members of the movement so they are aware of their part in making the countryside more beautiful. We have boosted the emulation program of good farmers in production and trading, invested in production models through the Fund for scientific and technological transfer to farmers, and signed wholesale contracts with farmers to ensure their incomes.”
Dinh Van Toan, Chairman of Lao Cai province’s Farmers’ Union, said the Union’s members have raised their awareness on promoting the national cultural identity:”The resolution is of great significance in preserving traditional culture. Lao Cai province has diverse cultures and preserving and promoting cultural values creates momentum for economic development. The Farmers’ Union will launch more activities to bring the resolution to life to sweep away backward habits and promote valuable customs. It will be the foundation for tourism and building new rural areas.”
Farmers’ Union’s branches will enhance communications on patriotism and national pride to motivate unity and mutual support. Nguyen Hong Ly, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, says: “We’ll expand emulation movements in building new rural areas in connection with the movement of “all people unite to build a cultural lifestyle” to obtain practical results in improving farmers’ spiritual and material lives.”
