(CPV) – The 2013 Summer Camp for young expatiates (overseas Vietnamese -OV) under the theme “10 years – The call of the homeland”, opened in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang, marking the 10th anniversary of the annual event.
This year’s camp, organized by the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs under the Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, saw the participations of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan; Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Phan Van Mai; and 180 outstanding young OVs from 25 nations and territories worldwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Thanh Son emphasized that the Party and State attaches great importance to the policy of national unity, and aims to create favorable conditions for OVs to uphold their role as one of the nation’s most valuable resources.
The event aims to help young OVs better understand the origin of their nation’s culture, therefore enhancing their attachment to the country. It is also a good chance for them to practice Vietnamese language, meet each other and exchange experiences, as well as to visit historical relics and sites along the nation.
In Ha Giang province, participants paid tribute to fallen soldiers at a cemetery in Vi Xuyen district, engaged in an art exchange with the province’s youth, and visited the Thanh Thuy border gate and some border markers. They ended activities in the on July 15 by visiting the Lung Cu flagpole and the Dong Van Stone Plateau.
“I am so moved when setting foot in Ha Giang, the northernmost province of the country. Here, we have learnt more about our ancestors’ struggle to defend the national border. I am very happy to see strong development of the nation in the fields of economics and social, hoping to enjoy unforgettable moments here in Vietnam with my friends”, said Ms Vu Huyen Trang, 24, from Bulgaria.
Besides, young expatriates are expected to visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, hold exchanges with youth communities in Thanh Hoa province and Da Nang city, visit sightseeing places in Thua Thien -Hue province, Da Nang city, Quy Nhon city and Ca Mau city.
This year’s event will end on July 30 in the southernmost province of Ca Mau./.
