The success of the Vietnam Provincial Environmental Governance (VPEG) project is the hallmark of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Canada (1973-2013).
Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam Deborah Chatsis made this statement at a conference held in Hanoi on June 13 to assess the outcomes of the VPEG project.

Chatsis stressed that Canada and Vietnam have been developing environmental co-operation since 1995. Canada was one of the first donors to Vietnam through the Vietnam-Canada Environment Project, which aims to support the implementation of environmental protection laws and enhance Vietnam’s capacity to manage its environment.

The VPEG project has been carried out in Hanoi, Da Nang, Binh Duong, Bac Ninh, Long An, Hai Duong, Quang Ngai and Soc Trang provinces from 2008-2013 under an agreement between the two Governments.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) Bui Cach Tuyen said the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) provided a total of CAD15 million in financial and technical support for the project.
