HCM City sees a rise in foreign visitors

Ho Chi Minh City saw a rise in the number of foreign visitors to the city in the first 5 months of the year, according to information from the Ho Chi Minh City (HCM City) Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Although the growth rate was not as high as expected, it was seen as a positive sign for the city’s tourism as the tourism sector of the country was facing many difficulties and the number of foreign visitors to the country contracted compared to the same time last year.

Particularly, the local agency said that some 186,200 foreigners visited the city in May and in the first 5 months the city has welcomed more than 1.6 foreign visitors, up by 7 percent, and gained VND 24,405 billion of the city’s total tourism turnover, up by 15 percent, year on year.

However, the agency also pointed out that the growth rate in thenumbers of foreign visitors tended to go down year on year.

Against this backdrop, the city is preparing a number of programmes to stimulate local tourism.
