Floods leave 54 dead and injured

(VOV) – Heavy floods in large areas stretching from Ninh Binh to Ha Tinh provinces have so far killed 16 and injured 38 people, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue.

The death toll include one in Ninh Binh, seven in Thanh Hoa, six in Nghe An and two in Ha Tinh.

The flood waters have also swept away 52 houses, destroyed and submerged more than 3,500 houses, mainly in Ha Tinh and Nghe An, and damaged more than 22,000 hectares of rice and fruit crops.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting says the floods are receding, but slowly in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.

*** Dao Van Binh, Chairman of the Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee says the capital city has donated VND8 billion to these provinces, including VND3 billion to Thanh Hoa and Nghe An each and VND2 billion to Ha Tinh.

In addition, each family oflandslide victims in La Pan Tan commune, Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province will receive VND5 million in relief aid.

The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) has sent its staff to hand over VND1-2 million to each family of landslide victims in Yen Bai province.

VRC has also provided VND420 million in emergency relief for the three central provinces to overcome the consequences of floods.
