A brief ceremony was held Monday morning at the Pham Ngoc Thach Clinic, with the attendance of US Consul General in HCMC Le Thanh An and hospital officials.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) with funding from the President’s Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) started cooperating with six medical facilities in Vietnam in 2010 and four of them obtained domestic standards approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology in March this year.

The above-mentioned clinics are two among the four that have won the global accreditation of international standards.

The progress creates environment for the two healthcare facilities to improve efficiency and ensure reliable test results for patients.

“The visionary leadership and determination that has been shown in HCMC and the southern region in implementing comprehensive HIV prevention, care and treatment programs and building stronger health systems is extraordinary,” said the US Consul General Le Thanh An at the ceremony this morning.

“The US-Vietnamese collaborative effort in fighting the HIV epidemic has reduced mortality, saved lives and provided an opportunity to build and invest in a healthier future for all Vietnamese citizens,” he added.

The PEPFAR has provided a financial aid of over $500 million to support HIV/AIDS programs in Vietnam since 2004. In HCMC alone, over 300,000 individuals got HIV testing and nearly 29,000 men, women and children got funding for life-saving anti-retroviral treatment.
